Default Track Tire Pressures

Looking to see what pressures owners like at the track. I'm planning a session or two tomorrow (MSR Cresson if any Rennlist members will be out there). I have the MPSC 2s.

Sport Cup 2's, try 32F / 35R. I use this on my GT3 so I've thought maybe try adjusting the split to 33/35. They like lower pressures similar to the Cup 1's.

I mostly ran 33F 36R hot at COTA with Cup2s, but 1-2 psi lower gripped better throughout the session. I was just too impatient to run them that low and wait on them to warm up.

I'm eager for some tribal wisdom to accumulate on the GT4 here. Some of the recommendation have been based on GT3 experience, but I've seen everything from 32, 34, and 36 hot all around to 31-32 F / 34-35 R hot. I'm also reading that 25F/28R cold is a good starting point to get to approximately the right place hot, subject of course to driving style, track, ambient temp, etc. Some of this variance may come from some prioritizing absolute grip rather than tire longevity too, I imagine.

Either way, sounds like cold pressures will need to be below 27, which makes wonder why TPMS throws a warning below that pressure even in Circuits mode and won't let you store a profile with pressures below that.

Was that your white GT4 out there in White group today? If so, I saw it a few times on track and found it in the parking lot but you were never around. Would definitely love to check it out if possible. I'll be there tomorrow in Garage 16 wearing a Flamingo Auto shirt. If I'm not there, I'll either be instructing my Blue student or hanging out in Yellow since that group makes the most sense schedule-wise when instructing Blue. Maybe we could meet up while Red is out?

Wasn't me, mine is guards red. I normally run in red or white groups at edge addicts, but didn't go this time since I was at Chin last week.

Would be happy to meet up and chat next time I'm out though.

Keep in mind that while these tire pressure recommendations being given are GOOD, they are for a GT3/rear engine setup.

My experience in with the boxster spyder/mid-engine has been to keep the pressures even on all 4 tires, FWIW

Unless you are trying to band-aid chassis balance with tire pressure all cars should have the same HOT FR/R psi.

I'm going to agree with Orthojoe here on tire pressure recommendation for the GT4 since I had the same experience with my R.

I don't think I would call playing with the pressures a band-aid. That is a trick one can use instead of drilling extra holes into an existing swaybar, replacing it entirely or in the case of the GT4 wrenching on it. Its a good way to learn, approximate it before modifications; if so desired.

PARAMETER .........TO INCREASE UNDERSTEER ....TO INCREASE OVERSTEER
Front Tire Pressure ............. Lower ................................ Higher
Rear Tire Pressure .............. Higher ................................ Lower

Agreed. Maybe band-aid wasn't the best word. Then again, we have done stuff like welding blades onto stock bars because we couldn't find softer ones. Now THAT is probably a band-aid. I agree though that the ability to adjust tire pressures to help things is a powerful tool often overlooked. If the balance is right, square is best.
