Default No 2017 GT4s?

I picked up my GT4 today (pics will come soon, was too busy driving ) and during the process, I had a brief talk with the manager.

We were just talking about how rare the GT4s are going to be, and he said that he has already heard from Porsche that there will be no 2017 GT4s. This is the first I have heard of this, but he was quite adamant that this was the only model year for this car.

Also, in lower mainland (which is the greater metro area surrounding Vancouver, Canada), we will be getting ~40 GT4s in total. If any of you Vancouver people are out there, let's all meet up for a coffee!

This is how GT cars are done. They are only built for a ~12 month period when there is some excess production capacity typically, at the end of the version run. It's expected that the 981.2 will commence production around April next year and that would mean the end of the GT4 until some capacity frees up around the end of the 981.2 run (assuming they do 981.2 and later GT4's but given the reception I'd think that it's a pretty good bet)

Sounds about right. I have an allocation in which i'll be recieving the car this time next year. It will be a 2016. I asked the manager at my local dealership here in toronto canada if theres any way i can get a 2017 by that time ; he said nothings for sure but he can guarantee a 2016.

I could agree that there may not be any 2017 GT4's BUT I firmly believe that there will be more allocations that may be coded as 2016's.

Why you say:

1) Porsche is working to increase production numbers and most of their sports cars have stagnate or declining sales EXCEPT one hot item called the GT4
Porsche has stated that they are always looking to produce numbers that are just slightly less than the market demand. There is certainly an un filled market demand for the GT4

2) If Porsche were not going to produce more GT4's why would they continue to market the car i.e. the latest package many got with a symbolic GT4 steering wheel, an expensive marketing promotion.

That said I think there are but three criteria that will limit GT4 production. First and foremost is market demand. Second is production capacity in light of schedule timing for the new 991's and re engined 981's and lastly the availability of parts for additional GT4's

No I don't have any inside information it is just common sense marketing

They will make more. Just like they did with 991 GT3.

Haven't all GT3's been 2 model year runs?:

996.2: 2004 & 2005
997.1: 2007 & 2008
997.2: 2010 & 2011 (and some 2012 for 4.0L)
991.1: 2014 & 2015 (and maybe a few 2016)

There will be more GT4's.

If (when) they become MSRP the "lists" disappear and they should be available.
GT3's have been available with some searching and patience the last year.

All previous GT3's were available below MSRP at the low point. Even the 4.0.

We might be in a bit of a bubble.

Default No 2017 GT4s?

I don't remember the 4.0s available at a discount, or msrp for that matter.

I gotta say having come across a couple over 600 VIN #'s recently this makes a lot of sense.

The trick of this sort of information is sorting through the facts and the guesses.

I doubt if Porsche told any dealer about their production plans, number of units, etc. I am wiling to bet the "I heard" or "I was told" are all guesses - but because these are sales people, it comes across as facts.

Unless they have a verifiable source inside PAG (which I doubt, and if they do, they will not quote them) its all guesswork.

Common sense tell us they are making money on the GT4, and its bolstering sagging Cayman sales - so it would make sense that Porsche builds more. That is tempered by model changes, line capacity, holidays, etc. At the end its all just guessing (which is fun anyways).

Cheers,

Mike

LOL, whenever a sales person tells me anything, I assume it is said for the sole purpose of enticing me to purchase a car from that salesperson and that any intersection between the statement and the truth is purely accidental.

I believe there will be giving the sales and demand of the 2016 model. Porsche clearly under estimated demand, and wanted to test the waters with an initial allocation. I'm sure they'll announce 2017 model soon.

Could the GT4 break the mold again ( out preforms 911 models ) and be the 1st GT car to be on a regular build schedule? I could see Porsche having another car right along the side of the 911. The whole problem with this notion is the GT4 was way underpriced from the get-go! I could see Porsche slowly raising the performance of the GT4 but upping the price to see just what the market could handle. Before you know it the GT4 will be priced right up there with a CGTS and will have similar performance.

Few know Porsches true intention MY 17 ? One thing is for sure the NEXT go round of GT4's Will be in the base range of $99k with modest performance upgrades.
