Default LWBs, PTS, AND Euro Delivery. One caveat...

Ok, so my absolutely AWE-SOME SA at Porsche of Orlando, Fl was able to pull off the Tri-fecta! Although, here's the catch... Car will be ready for Euro delivery late Nov or Dec!

This has been a dream to do Euro delivery and of course get a chance to run the ring. Of course, the ring is closed during the winter. So, question for you all with more experience than I: Is it still worth it to do Euro delivery in the middle of winter?

My two cents:

I haven't done an ED in the winter but I will say doing so you will miss out on probably most alpine passes and as you mentioned, the ring.

My ED trips have centered around driving because I can always go on vacation and see the tourist spots but how often will I be buying a car and picking it up over there?

Is there any way to push your delivery out? It would probably need to be next summer to get access to all of the alpine passes but the ring probably opens sooner.

I think you would need to use Winter tires at that time. I'd delay it til April delivery if possible...

Cups in the cold and snow - recipe for disaster.

Aim for earliest May I think.

Cheers,

I thought the factory lent you winter tires if you take ED in the cold months. I think their would be liability issues otherwise, even in Europe.

I have never done Porsche Euro Delivery, but I worked and lived in Europe for several years and spent several winters in and around our offices in Frankfurt and Munich. My recommendation would be either delay the delivery or have winter wheels/tires mounted and the summer wheels/tires shipped home. And per above definitely avoid the mountain passes.

Its the law in Germany during those month.

Anyway, I'm surprised that a Floridian (don't they already wear winter cloth in 50 deg weather ) would even consider doing ED during those month.

I am also doing ED with the GT4, pickup November 27. Impossible to delay until spring, Porsche will not keep the car for more than 6 weeks. Winter tires are supplied at no charge for the first 2 weeks. After they charge 200 € per week.

So it was that, or no ED. It was too risky to let go of the allocation and wait for another one for a spring or summer ED.

I'm in a similar boat. My ED window was end of Oct / beginning of Nov, but the Ring closes on 10/15/15, so I figured that would be a 'wasted' trip. Many have tried to convince me to still go, but I've never been to Europe and really wanted this to be a killer trip.

My SA is currently trying to move my window up to the 2nd week of October ED. If I can do that, I will go two weeks early, do the touristy stuff, and then pickup my car for the finale. Hopefully I can get this approved and be able to drive all of the roads, etc.

FWIW, I was told they will supply winter tires at no charge.

I'm sure if some of you want to give up your ED spot, some here would be interested

I think if you don't take this opportunity, you will likely regret it. LWBs and PTS alone should seal the deal and you'll still have a blast on your ED trip. Life is short.

I would definitely do it. Winter tires are required by law during the winter months, good that Porsche will provide them. You can still have quite a lot of fun and see the sights just not the the extent you could during warmer months. Still worth it to me, esp with PTS - how is that even a question?

You're making good sense here. I think I should start planning.
