Because I was blown away by how beautifully it handles in curves and its engine noise!

And this inner beauty is so frigging expensive! I got hurt much with the trade in value of the GT3 but really did not have the time to deal with the private sellings. The dealer made it up by reducing my wife's Macan significantly.

I am so glad to see that I got my customizable allocation of GT4. I made it yellow and without chrono (finally got rid of the $2000 clock!) with yellow stitches and seatbelt. My build is just a tad below 100k. The shipment date is late Nov. My only concern is whether I should have PCCB for the brake pad durability. I know PCCB does not hold well for tracking purpose, but I don't track anyway. Maybe I should get them for street usage purpose and so I don't have to change brake pad every 20k miles? Thoughts?

Gotta tell you. I never have this difficult times of getting a car I want. I have to buy one more car to get the GT4! But I am sure GT4 is worth it. So I am going to drive my wife's Macan until GT4 arrives.

I'd take steel brakes as an excuse to consider trying a few track days, but if you're adamant about not tracking a GT4 , then you just have to decide whether perpetually clean wheels, yellow calipers, and the look of ceramic rotors are worth $8K to you, plus a ~$20K brake job later if you keep the car long-term.

But if you're just considering them to avoid the inconvenience of a brake job every 20K, that seems insane IMHO. How long will it take you to reach 20K and how long does a brake job take? Chances are they'll do it during an oil change anyway, so you wouldn't even need a separate service appointment for it.

I'm glad you said it. I was going to tell you the same thing. You see it in magazines about how fun and exciting it is to drive a new Miata, so I went to the dealership to test drive one. I had the same reaction as you.

I also own a 991 GT3 and I was going to trade it in for a Turbo S since I got the GT4 for a track day car. But when I was driving the GT4, I realized that I'm going to miss the PDK-S and 9,000 rpm engine. I'm 100% sure that you will miss the PDSK + 9,000 rpm engine 10 times more than missing a driving manual. And GT4 manual is not like the 997 GT3 manual. I was thinking that GT4 would have the same clutch firmness and rifle action gear change feel, but it's actually really soft and comfortable. I despise comfort, so I don't like it.

Interesting, I think this is the first negative comment I've seen about the shifter. Everyone else seems to be really impressed or at least merely neutral; a couple people even said it was better than anything they'd ever rowed, including the S2000.

Get the PCCB if you don't track and cost is no issue... They're worth it. Even if you do decide to go to the track,a couple of times won't hurt them IMO. But if you get addicted to the track then...

The Miata is a great car. I have one. It's the most fun I have at 30-40 MPH. It handles unbelievably! It does not need more power IMO. You just need to wind the engine at the higher RPM. I have no doubt the new one is a blast actually. But you can't compare it with a Porsche, let alone a GT3. Of course you didn't like it if your expectations were up there with the Porsche.

It's not a negative comment. Just a preference. Lot of people think that 997 GT3 shift effort is too high. I thought that too initially, but I got used to it. So now I just have to get used to GT4.
