Least useless useless option?
Sorry guys for being that guy
. But silly option question time -
Don't want to spend 5k for both Sport chrono and PCM. Both are kind of useless, but which is less useless?
Sport chrono
- $1850 for a clock!
+ Sort of like the look of the clock on 981 (hate it on 911).
+ The track app (if it works like Nur93 says) is more fitting with the character of the car.
PCM
- Nav part is useless to me.
+ Additional music streaming stuff - kind of useful (if you can hear anything in this car).
+ Main reason would be the display unit, which I think would be required if you ever want to retrofit the OEM reverse camera (from Spyder).
ps. CDR plus would have been awesome if it didn't come with fugly roof wart!

You don't need PCM for the camera. Works perfectly on the CDR plus.
You dont need PCM for USB iPhone integration either. Works with CDR plus.
What roof wart are you talking about BTW?
PCM is hands-down less useless than Sport Chrono. I don't use route guidance much either, but I still like having a live map to check while driving, and like you I wanted the better display and additional infotainment features without getting the roof wart. Owners say that if engine revs are kept low during highway cruising, it is possible to enjoy some music and have a conversation. And yes, you do need either CDR+ or PCM for rear camera. If the Spyder's camera can't be retrofitted or somehow isn't available, NavTV has a plug and play option now (an improvement from the original design that required opening up the head unit, thereby voiding your warranty on it) that I will also be considering.
I'm passing on Sport Chrono because a) unlike others, I don't mind the dash look without it, possibly because that look is a fairly close match to my current E92 M3, b) a second hand that large constantly running while in clock mode would bug me, especially given that the movement itself seems rather low-rent compared to nicer clocks (though many of those wouldn't have a second hand in the first place....), and c) if I want to gather track telemetry I'll use Harry's Lap Timer and some external sensors. Not as elegant, and depending on what's available through OBD it may not be able to gather throttle, brake, and steering angle information, which are admittedly cool and useful, but since I've yet to use telemetry at an HPDE, I'm not losing sleep over it.

CDR+ on the GT4 at least in the US automatically gives you SiriusXM and HD Radio; SiriusXM puts a wart on your roof for the antenna. With PCM, SiriusXM+HD is an option. I'm sure if you fire up Google Images you'll find pictures of 981 Caymans with the wart.

Just my opinion, but the dash display is a horrible place to be looking when achieving high acceleration values. Any iPhone can record that data as well to review after the drive (even better with Harry's Lap-timer iPhone app).
Mine has to be one of the lowest option GT4 s ordered . Two options auto climate and CDR+. 88k that's less than some loaded Boxsters. As everybody knows Porsche can kill you on cosmetic upgrades. I've seen 20grand of fluff on 981s-991s. I'm the other extreme if it doesn't make a difference in how the car stops- accelerates or corners I won't pay for it. I've lost track of how much money I've lost on options that I thought looked neat. And it never failed who ever I sold the car to either didn't care or didn't like my taste. Carl
