Default Visually Identify Specs

Hi All,

I've owned a 92 NSX for the past 10 years and it will be sold in the next couple weeks. I think I've narrowed my next car to be to the GT4. While doing my research, I've noticed there are a lot of options on this car. Is there post I can reference that describes the different specs and how I can identify them based on pictures? There are zero GT4's I can look at in my state. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Replace the VIN in the link below to see the build sheet for the car. It will also show original MSRP, production month, and warranty start date.

Another thing you can do is go on the Porsche car configurator & build a Cayman S, which will give you a rough idea of what options on these cars cost.
IMHO some things are ridiculous for cost. The nice thing is you can really personalize your car on what you like.

Actually compared to most Porsches the GT4s had relatively few options. Engine and trans (6MT, no PDK) same on all cars. All have PSE and sport mode with rev matching. Same PASM suspension. Only one wheel design (not forged) with a couple of colors. The key options were the brakes- cast iron with red calipers or PCCB with yellow calipers, Seats- 4 way manual, 18 way power sport seats or "full bucket seats", Sport chrono with track app identified by the dash clock, aka "wart". I think there were only 2 sound system options- the base or Plus with Nav. There could be quite a few interior options for leather, stitching, seat belt colors, painted console, carbon fiber etc. Exterior colors and some PTS cars. Can't recall for sure but there were a couple of headlight options. Take a look at the Porsche used car locator and read through the GT4 descriptions for more background. Good luck with the search.

I ran a couple cars through, funny how the dealer will say it has all these options but the Porsche admin tool show different. Thank you so much for this.

Remember that some variations of models have features standard that are options on others. Look at base vs S vs GTS. You will see options like PASM standard on one but optional on the other. Those options don't show up in the build sheet when standard.

Does the VIN tool show if it's a base, S, or GTS? I don't see anything that says it. So essentially you can have a Base GT4 or GTS GT4?

The way Porsche models work. There is the model, 718 Boxster, 718 Cayman, Carrera, etc. Each of those can have many variations like 718 Boxster is the base, 718 Boxster S, or 718 Boxster GTS. The VIN tool will show the variation at the top description. Only the Cayman has a GT4 variant like only the Boxster has a Spyder variant. Here it is for my car which is a 2012 Carrera S Cabriolet.

No, there is only a single Cayman GT4. Base, S and GTS levels apply to 981 Caymans. The Cayman GT4 belongs to the GT family.

Ah ok. Makes sense now. I'm only looking at GT4's so I should just compare options.

What's your intended use? For track the common recommendation is iron brakes and bucket seats. For street/ weekend use the base or 18 way seats may be more comfortable. The PCCBs work great and save a lot of unsprung weight but replacement rotors are crazy expensive. After settling those options it's mostly exterior color and whether you want the nice interior bits- leather, deviated stitching, upgraded sound/Nav, etc. Just my 2c. Best of luck.

Oh, edit- there is also a smokers package which gives another 12v outlet and also an extended range fuel tank. Neither essential but nice to haves.

I'm interested to know the options so I don't over pay for a car and have something compare potential cars apples-to-apples.

got any pics of the NSX? i've got a soft spot for them.

i've been kicking around the idea of building a fully caged NSX race car. just need to find a totaled one with no tub/frame damage.
