718 GT4?

Starting with the 2017 models, the Boxster/Cayman line switched from naturally-aspirated flat six engines to turbo four cylinder engines. Much gnashing of teeth ensued.
This is the current 718 line-up:
Base - 2.0L turbo four cylinder
T - 2.0L turbo four cylinder
S - 2.5L turbo four cylinder
GTS - 2.5L turbo four cylinder
A 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Boxster Spyder will debut at some point.
EVERYTHING outside that is rumor and speculation until Porsche makes an official announcement.
We, as a group, don't know if the 718 GT4/Spyder will be turbo or naturally-aspirated.
If there is a naturally-aspirated flat six motor coming to the 718 line, we, as a group, don't know if it will be used solely in the 718 GT4/Spyder or if it will find its way into a more pedestrian model with an existing or new model moniker (you might have seen 718 Cayman 6 or 718 Boxster 6 thrown about).
Someone here might be spot-on correct. But the signal to noise radio is poor. As a group we won't know what is coming until Porsche tells us. And we don't even know when that will happen!

Of course its the 4.0. Right after I purchased a 3.8 GT4 (now hopefully my value doesn't plummet). What do you think they mean by allocations expected second quarter. Does that mean they're taking allocations second quarter with deliveries several months later are they going to be taking deliveries at second quarter?
Interested as well. If they mean true allocations in second quarter, that's a long ways out and that stinks!

I’ve owned many Porsche’s. Local sales manager who is a very close friend at a premier dealership confirmed it is 4.0 na, 420 hp. Allocations expected late January/early February. Revealed at Goodwin.

Johnauto...if you can find someone who can legitimately and accurately answer your questions, cozy and buddy up with them and take them down to Vegas to place some bets.

Dealers in USA will tell you it's limited (hence they're charging a markup) but in fact anyone who wanted one in EU could buy the 981 GT4 at MSRP, same as the new one. Guess those dealers in USA are not very honest.

No, they are not... a metric ****-ton of GT3RS's are sitting on dealer lots in SoCal... early entry fee was $50-$100k over sticker.

Not limited. Demand -1. That doesn’t mean all ‘orders’ will be filled. Lots of info on RL re the allocation process. Just don’t buy into all of the hype.

Ah no... They would not take my money here in Germany. And I know a dozen more that could not secure one.

I think that things will be different this time. Some (possibly most?) of the first cars were bought by those who planned on owning them for a brief time and selling into the hype at a premium to what they paid, or at least recovering their money. Look at the .2 GT3 market, those flipper cars or cars owned by those who frequently purchase and sell hype cars to maintain a zero cost of amazing car ownership are likely going to be sitting on their cars or taking a financial hit to sell them this round. Barely used .2 GT3s are selling for around msrp, so those folks lose all the tax and transaction costs.
That population of people, people who are on the list for the cheap GT4 that they can turn around and sell in a year for what they paid, are probably going to skip this round. I imagine that there will be strong demand from people who actually want the car, lower demand from those who want to drive it around briefly.
Take my fortune telling for what its worth but the GT market has changed over the last few years and its not easy to see the "investment" aspect of buying one of these cars anymore.
