718 GT4?

I think it could run the stock 718 GTS motor and be a good bit faster than a 981 GT4, based on my times on track alongside 718S's.
Well, not "a good bit" faster maybe, but faster.

Keep in mind the new 718 Cayman S can whip the GT4 on track now (or at least match) because of the turbo motor. So if the new GT4 stays NA it will need a much bigger bump in power to deliver more performance than a 718 S

Yes, more like match not whip. But it's not just because of the motor. The chassis has been improved significantly over previous 981 S/GTS.

stick like for like tyres it will come ever closer but its weakest link are the brakes....

It's 5 seconds slower around the Ring driven by the same driver, while the 981 Cayman S is another 8s behind that. So yes, GT4 is still marginally faster). But if they only give it a ~20hp NA bump in power, the new GT4 will definitely not gain another 8s from the 718 Cayman S. If they stick with NA (please) I'm expecting a bigger bump in power to make up for the tq bump that the turbo 718s got. Otherwise it will be tough to justify the jump in pricing (also assuming Porsche will price 718 GT4 a decent bit higher after the enormous demand they experienced last time around).

Sorry I made a mistake by using such a strong term :P By "whip" I meant more in terms of value prop- the fact that the 718 Cayman S is only marginally slower around power circuits now while no doubt costing a decent chunk less than the upcoming GT4 if it indeed stays NA

This is one fair reason to believe it will not be a 6 cyl turbo...

I think we will see the same result with the 718 GT4. GT3 engine with smaller throttle body and less redline. So less fast as result, but plenty fast for GT4 racing worldwide.

The 991.2 GTS is pretty close to the .2 GT3 also so it's not just a 718 trait. The GTS got +20 turbo hp to the GT3's +25 NA hp. Porsche can game the lap times with new stickier MPSC tires bigger brakes, more aero, and PDK with the 718 to keep GTS and GT4 separated even with similar hp.

I assume Porsche employees aren't combing this forum answering threads about the next GT4 engine. Nor do any of the car rags have reliable intel.
