GT4 Clubsport vs GT3
Hi,
I have a 992 GT3 that I've been tracking and I'm starting to think about looking for a GT4 clubsport. How woudl teh 2 compare? I know i would be giving up power, but the GT4 is lighter. has anyone driven both and have an comparison? Thx!

The GT4 will be a lot slower on the straights, but turn better laptimes. I’ve only driven the 991 GT3s, and they are awesome. But for a track only weapon, the GT4 is amazing. Does depend a bit on what you plan to do (DE or race), and what your goals are.

Coming from 991.1 GT3RS, even the 2016 CS is way more fun with around the same lap time (give or take 1-2 seconds on power dependent tracks). Plus all of the safety equipment in a factory race car. You really can't beat it for an entry level track only car. There's something to be said about a visceral, no sound deadening, stripped out, factory race car experience. Best advice I could give would be to go rent one for a weekend and put new slicks on; Hankooks, Pirellis, Yokohamas, whatever, just a new, full racing slick. I did and was hooked immediately.

Might find this thread useful. Pre-dates the 992, but similar question: 991.2 Gt3 to 718 Clubsport - Rennlist - Porsche Discussion Forums

You'll miss the power and be underwhelmed by the motor in the CS, however, the dedicated track/race car build will shine in terms of what others have outlined (slicks, full cage, race seat, suspension, and largely the PFC brakes, etc.). Apple and oranges in someways, but purpose built would be a step forward vs a dual purpose road going car.

I have a 718 CS and a few weekends ago there was a fellow instructor at a track day with a 992 GT3 - it was a PDK with Pirelli slicks - on Watkins Glen (a power track) we were very evenly matched and when we compared times after the session they were close (the CS was a smidgeon faster).

I went through the same decision process in November of last year. I was tracking a 991.1 GT3 and decided to make the leap to a 718 CS Competition. I am glad I did! The CS is a very competent track car and the safety features, for me, were what sold it. I wanted to drive VIR, Road Atlanta, and other faster tracks and just didn't feel comfortable without having the full cage, 6 point harnesses, etc.
The engine sound is not comparable, the GT3 wins this hands down. I haven't missed the power though, and the braking and cornering of the CS more than make up for any loss of power down the straights. The final bonus for me is that I can beat the crap out of the CS and don't really car if it gets a scratch or two, it's a race car and it is should have a few battle wounds. I love my GT3 and like keeping it in near perfect condition. That's hard to do when you drive it on the track. Good luck!

I won’t repeat what the others have said. Above video is me following a 992. I think its his home track, it was my first weekend there. For me, no brainer, get the clubsport.

I just finished my first weekend in a 981CS (no boosted breaks, no suspension, no power mods, no MR parts): its running same times as my 991.2gt3 (on street tires was faster on slicks with the GT3) at COTA; but its just more fun 100000%. I think the lap times will improve or beat the gt3 with some power mods and suspension. I am flat out through a lot of the sections I was off and on throttle / break with the GT3. The car is safer, 1/2 the price, and more connected. Not going back to a a street car for the track. Will consider a 718 in a year or two.
