This is a question that has been haunting me for a while now. I have a MT 991.2 GT3 that is mainly used for track days and well sorted with 19” forgelines, AP racing brakes, e-motion full monoball control arms, Manthey wing, but only half cage with 6-point harness… I am well within the same lap times of a 718 CS and would love to jump to the safety (and fun) of a real properly factory built race car.
I use it for 6-8 track weekends a year but also a few very fun drives with friends such as Smokies. Dont have the garage space (aka pocket space) to just add a CS. Thought about trying to turn the GT3 into a 918CS and a non-GT3 991 or 997. But so hard to give up my current car.
I may eventually just bite the bullet and do it...

I loved the car so much that that i decided to retire it from track duty and save it from ending up in a tire wall. (I still have the car).
I decided that i wanted a car i could comfortable push further to the limit without worrying about saftey or resale. Exact same time the 2016 GT4 clubsport was launched. Been in Clubsports ever since.

Back in 2012-2015 i ran my 2007 997RS with full bolt in cage and full track mods.

Dont want to hijack the thread but likely helpful for OP as well. For a fun DE few times a year is the 718 that much more special or 981 is just as much fun? Any major differences on known maintenance headaches that would make the 718 a definite go to? From what I read in these very helpful threads, does not seem like. Seems like I could save some bucks on the admission with 981 but not sure on long run?

agreed but they are quite close in terms of performance. The 718 is only 1-2 secs faster at most tracks.
The hard part with the 981 will be finding one. Most 981s now have 7 seasons on them. Even with a modest schedule of say 6 PCA racing events per year, you are talking something in 160 hour range, which is over 15k miles. Ma h acrs will have 20-35k miles. That a ton of race miles. Even at 15k miles, That enough use that you need to ensure all the components that time out have been replaced, which is not cheap.

Have two GT4 Clubsports. 2016 - 981 MR and 2020 CS Comp. Both produce much faster lap times than the street 911's. I'm 2-4 seconds faster in the CS' on a 2.3 mile track than in my GT2RS street car. They weigh 500 lbs less and have slicks. Once you have one of these race cars, street cars will never be the same to you. Trust me.

I have a 992 GT3 Touring and a 19' GT4 Clubsport MR with a season of racing the clubsport under my belt. The clubsport handles great and is light on power so more a momentum car. I took the 992 on track few weeks back and the new front end handles so well, I'm working on sourcing a 992 cup. My friends who have them say they're more manageable to drive than the 991's.
