Once you start adding mods, the correct pronunciation is POR$CHE.

If you spend more time driving it than you do saying it, it just doesn't matter. I say Porsche just as it sounds.

It's a German name, so seems fair to say that the 'correct' way is the way Ferry himself would've said it Pronunciation in German is very unambiguous, unlike English.

Porsch-e (2 syllables)

'Porsch' is pronounced like 'porch' but with a 'sh', not a 'ch'.
'e' is a short syllable pronounced a bit like the 'i' in 'stirred' or the 'u' in 'surf'. Hmmm... I hope that makes sense.

Hang on, I've got an idea - just watch a Porsche commercial in German!

You should be able to pick out 'Porsche' from the rest

I guess we should all start saying BMV or "Bay Em Vay" instead of Bimmer to be socially correct.

I say "Por-sha" & asked Mark Porsche (son of Mr. Porsche) how he likes to hear it.

He too said "Por-sha."

BTW...

He is a great guy, and very much into America & Americana.

IMHO, people's names can only have one correct pronunciation whereas B, M and W are just letters of the alphabet...

Enough of this, I'm taking the pooch out for a spin <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

This is the biggest collection of downloadable Porsche videos on the web that I know of:

<a href="http://www.lad.lv/~martini/porsche/default.asp?l=eng&Sub=3&SubSub=2" target="_blank">Porsche Club of Latvia</a>

Plenty more commercials

Someone told me it's "Porsh" if you don't own one and "Porsh-uh" if you do.

There is a cartoon about this posted in my mechanic's shop.

An anthropomorphic 356 sits atop a lift and is starring nervously at the rate schedule pinned to a nearby wall:

Repair: [stuff] Porsche $85, Porsch-ah $95
Repair: [otherstuff] Porsche $45, Porsch-ah $65

Sorry, forgot what the [stuff] was - it doesn't much matter. Cartoon was dated such that $95 dollars was very expensive for it.

The correct pronunciation is as a two syllable word. Just try calling your local dealer and that's how they answer the phone (well here in the UK anyway).

I say Porsche with one syllable because it's easier and I'm lazy and I can 'cause I've got one. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

Yeah, after owning a 911 for about a dozen years I brought my car to a new performance shop. In talking with the proprietor for the first time I spoke the "P" word in what sounded like one syllable. He corrected in a somewhat smug tone, "Porsch-ah". To which I replied, "No ****". He got the point.

I actually do pronounce Porsche in two syllables, but I don't emphasize the second syllable, so instead of Porsch-UH, I say "Porsch-e".

A blonde needed some money so she hires herself as a handy man in a very wealthy neighborhood. On her first day she goes up to a man's houuse and asks him if he needs anything done and the guy asks her what she charges and she tells him 20 dollars a job. The man says thats a good deal so he asks her to paint his porch so she says ok and he said every thing you need is in the garage. So she goes off and she comes back and says she's done. The man was impressed and gave her 50 dollars since it was so fast and the blonde says "Thanks, and sir, thats not a porch, that's a Ferrari"

So you see, the correct pronunciation DOES matter
