Lightbulb Salute to all P-Car owners

A mere suggestion to my P-Car brothers (and sisters!) -
as my two-wheeled bretheren do, motorcyclists usually salute or each other when the passing one another. This is particularly true in Europe. I have tried either saluting or flashing my lights when passing other P-Cars, with varying success.

So, in an attempt to forge further fraternal bonds with other owners of the best production cars in the world, I respectfully submit and suggest to the rennlist powers that be:
that from now on, P-Car owners should acknowledge each other in some form of salutatory expression to the excellent taste their fellow Porsche owners have exhibited by driving these excellent machines!

Preferably not the ones where you tell people:

"You're number one!" <- for those in the US
(aka "one finger salute")

or

"It's almost two o'clock!" <- for our European counterparts

I see all the Harley guys waving at each other in most places. They sometimes give me a wave in the P-Car.

I have a neighbor who is the editor of one of the major Motorcycle Magizines and he's the nicest guy in the neighborhood. Most of the bikers are very nice people, similar to PCA, Rennlist members IMHO.

Flashing lights used to be the vogue with many Porsche owners, but it is fast becoming a lost art.

When I had several Triumph TR6's years ago, we all flashed each other. Of course it was easier for me to identify the cars back then compared to now. Now several times, what I thought was a Porsche and I was about to flash it or wave, was something else....

I guess I'm going blind or cars are getting more similar looking...

Much to my chagrin, other automakers just love taking their styling cues from Porsche!

I will go out of my way to say hello to a fellow water pumper...

However, everytime ( almost everytime ) I flash my flippy lights or wave to a Boxter driver, they look at me like I'm crazy.
These are probably the same guys that do 45 in a 65 on the freeway.

There is of course some exceptions.

I never have enough time to pop up my headlights and then flash them.
Maybe i should drive with my headlights up all day long.

Jeff,

Just pull the high beam lever on the column and the fogs will flash.

There was a cute column in Excellence a few years ago about the priorities of flashing and who would flash their lights at whom. I was in my 944 and thought it hilarious. Often cars go by too quickly to notice-I did flash a 930 a couple of weeks ago and got an acknowledgement-to which my wife warned me about radar ahead! Oh well.

It's interesting how many 911 drivers started out in vintage watercoolers so I suppose its a case of passing too quickly for the mind-hand interconnect.

I, for one, will adopt the following as policy:

when passing an oncoming P-Car I will flash lights;
and, when approaching (or being approached!) by a P-Car in the same direction, will give the

Porscheristi te salutant !
