Smile New Photos-Driving a BMW M-1 for 6 Months...Someone had to do it!

I had a friend that ended up with a BMW M-1 as part of a business transaction. I found it dusty in his warehouse several months later.
He said " I hear its a nice car". He had never driven it, He is also 6'-5"
tall so without a convex bubble in the roof it would have been a difficult
fit.

Knowing my interest in Euro. cars he asked me to sell it for him.
I had it in my third bay garage and drove it on weekends over about 6 months. I put about 500 miles on it.

For a Super Car it was not overly impressive around town, running about like a well tuned 911 SC. But that exhaust note is truley wicked and most people assumed it was a V-12.

Someone had to do it !!!!!

Default Engine compartment.

AHHHH Yes, the big pipes have a deep rumbling note!

The water pump went out during the 6 months I had the car.
We finally located a rebuilt one for $1,600. and waited for it to be shipped in from Germany. My friend paid for the repairs as it was his car.

It had about 22,000 miles on it.

I sold the car to a friend of Vasek Polak Jr.'s who lives in Origon.

Vasek came to my house to look at the car. We became friends
and he invites me to the Pits at road Atlanta for the Petit LeMans series each year as he is team coordinator for Audi.

See Audi team photos I just posted under new topic on General discussion form.

While the M1 is a beautiful car, those wheels always seemed out of place to me. It seems as if they spent the least time on how the wheel looked.

Wow! $1600 for a rebuilt waterpump? Exclusivity has its price, no?

Yes The wheels were a bit futuristic looking, also it bothered me BMW
used taillight lenses from a standard 635 instead of designing new ones?

You May Know this? but while I had it I learned that BMW had contracts with other companys, the body was designed by an Italian Design firm and the bodys/ tube frames built by Lamborghini.

BMW then inserted there mechanicles.
So its sort of a "Gertalian"car.

Actually only a few were contracted to Lambo... the quality was so poor in those days that BMW brought the production in-house.

I do remember that Lamborghini built the body/frame but wasn't it still from BMW's design (that I'm not sure). In either case, I do remember having a poster on my wall as a teenager (mid 80s) and it was of an M1 (same color as yours there) but with the race body kit and the Gotti 3 pc mod wheels. I remember thinking that it was better looking than anything that came out of the Ferrari or Lamborghini factories at the time.

I never noticed that it has the 6 series tail lights. Now that you mention it those taillights do look a little out of place (big and bulky), but I guess I never gave it a moment's thought.

Oh well, that was then. I'm happy to say that now I'd rather have a nice P-car.

Hmm.......Let me take that back....If I had to drive the car every day, I'd rather have a P-car, but I wouldn't mind having an M1 just to have one and admire it.

Default Rothmans 944

Re: Brandons Question.
The Rothmans 944 project has started very slowly as time and especially CASH are tight. A friend is helping and he is currently making up a parts list.

If anyone runs across a bolt in "Matter" Roll cage let me know.

Picture in my garage ( As Found)

Thanks

Ref:Aleks951.

The M-1 Confused most people( The genreral public). Surprisingly it didn't get a lot of attention...they werent sure what it was....a pantera maybe???

I almost bought a beater Ferrari 308 for $ 10,000 but allready had 3 Porsches in the garage, (pictured below)I drove it for a day
and I've never gotten so much attention in my life.

No kidding you would swear there was a naked woman on the roof of the car the way everyone was stairing and pointing at it... I am not a shy person but it made me self conciouse.

An ugly guy would have no trouble getting a date in a 308.

I would love to see a 10K dollar 308! I was looking for a 348 but I am going to wait a while before I do that.
