Default SALE: 1980 928 5-speed, Silver/Blue

If you've been looking for a 5-speed 928 this might be something you should take a look at.

This car belongs to a 45-year member of PCA. Ed has owned this car since 1986 and driven it very little He's nearly 80 and decided it was time to retire from active driving of his Porsches.

His log books (extensive detail) reflect a car that has been very well maintained, but rarely driven. He purchased the car in 1986 when it had about 39,800 miles on it. Today it has 45,505. The odometer has not worked since 2005, but I can see that he has routinely driven perhaps a couple hundred miles a year. He hasn't driven it for the last couple of years at all. I would estimate based upon his past history that the car may have as many as 47,000 miles on it.

The log book he maintains on the car includes every cent spent on the car, including fuel, etc. He's a retired economist--so money is his thing. Over the years he has calculated his cost per mile. For example, the cost per mile in 2000 was $2.80--he drove 400 miles that year. In 1999 the cost was $4.32 per mile--he drove 285 miles that year. I think you get the idea.

The car body was modified with the AIR body kit that transformed it into a GT look. Thus, it has the rear wing, along with the revised rear end and nose. Rocker panels round out the look. The car was apparently repainted when the kit went on. While some parts of the paint job reflect excellent preparation and execution, there are some issues under the paint on the left rear fender that look like it had been keyed once, but then not properly repaired before it was painted. No guess on that one.

Electronics. The following things have been discovered not to be working: Remote mirrors, radio (aftermarket--powers up, but no sound to speakers), central locking, fog lights. Everything else appears to be in good working order. The battery was replaced by myself when I first undertook selling the car for Ed.

Engine mechanicals. The engine looks great and from the service records, got whatever it needed WHEN it needed it. I have driven the car about 100 miles and found that it drives very nicely--far better than one would expect from a 30 year old car. Remarkable. (Now I see why there is such a following for these cars.)

Transmission. I get a little bit of gear clash when I quickly move to R or to 1st gear. If I take my time it works without that clash. Upper gears reflect no such issue.

Interior Condition. The car comes with leather covered seats, and dash. Many other parts are the matching blue vinyl. The dash leather reflects some shrinkage from the sun, although the car routinely is garaged in a 5-car garage. It's just the nature of the leather dashes from those days.

Tools. The tool kit is complete in the rear, along with a beautiful spare tire (collapsible) and an unused compressor (original).

Beneath the car there is no evidence of accidents. There are no bent under panels or rust that one would expect from a poor repair. The car barely even leaks any oil as best as I can tell. The brake system works very well. Pads are fresh.

You may contact me for further deals. Dan Lindsay, Edgy01@aol.com; 805 964-5020 (home) 805 452-5797 (mobile). We're asking $8750.00.

Now for some pictures to give an idea of what is for sale.

looks like an AIR kit, a decently fitted one at that
full log book is a major bonus and justifies a higher than normal price for this model... any front interior pics?

Very nice!

Did the 80 model not have the center console arm-rest and now useless cassette holder thingy?

Engine pics would be nice as well....
