These hotels are walking distance from each other, both on the same side of the same street, and both are at the end of the nice pedestrian mall that forms the heart of the city. I stayed at the Steigenberger Graf Zeppelin in June 2016. I would stay there again, but it’s certainly not the Ritz-Carlton. The subway is steps away out the front door, they have underground parking and the restaurant on the side of the pedestrian mall is pretty good. I went into the lobby of the Schlossgarten, and it didn’t seem to indicate it was any more or less than the Steigenberger.

I go to Stuttgart several times a year for business and while not fancy, I like the Hilton by the Porsche arena. It’s awya from the hustle of the city, but close enough for short cab rides for dinner, etc. the best parking imo, no steep drive ways like most hotels.

If you don't mind being out of the city, and looking for something different, there is a place that is tucked away in the country up in the hills, SE of the city, called Waldhotel, its a 10 min drive to downtown. I stayed there in the summer for 2 nights, when doing ED, very nice and not your run of the mill business hotel, a boutique hotel, for weddings, vacations, etc. Beautiful grounds, outstanding restaurant onsite, and picturesque, near parks, but definitely not walking distance to any shopping, etc.

We stayed at the Schlossgarten when Porsche put us up. It's an older hotel. But the rooms are spacious and the restaurant cooks up a great meal.
The 'Stein is just a few blocks away. My son was an infant then and the jet lag threw off his sleep a few days. Fond memories of strolling him between hotels in the middle of the night. The cobblestone would always put him to sleep.
