ir_fuel, a lot of lessons can be learned with iRacing, was was a lot earlier on my brakes last year in real racing from changing my style from what I learned in iRacing.
For me racing is always slower than practice and qualifying, one harder to get a clean lap without worrying about someone behind you or trying to pass someone. I also dial it back a little in the races just to make sure I don't screw up the car, we have seen many times its the constant one that does well.

Yeah, even when I was off the pace I didn't end last because I kept the car in 1 piece during 25 minutes.

I must say that some cars have a weird understeer tendency in iRacing. Oh and no ABS (driving the Ruf track spec) sure adds to the excitement

I think it also helps with the psychological aspect of racing too. Might help getting rid of stress you have with all those cars around you because contact and crashes is also heavily penalized in iRacing.

I'm almost always nervous at the start of a virtual race and almost never in a real one. Only one screen and the fact that all movement queues are visual makes it more stressful for me.

Had to learn Suzuka, and did a race there. Was not really on the pace, but ok, I'm no sim racing hero either. In order to increase my license level I decided to do time trials. 5 laps without any mistake was required, so I drove with the necessary margin not to make stupid mistakes and get 5 clean laps. End result was that my 5th lap was 2 seconds faster than the fastest I managed to drive in the race ...

Yep.

IMO one of the things many people lose sight of when it comes to racing is the mental aspect. Controlling the car and going around the track is only a portion. The rest of racing (and IMO the majority of it) is the mental game. And that's really where iRacing steps in to help... you get to practice the mental parts.

We are using a different layout of Sonoma then I ran the other day. I forget who it was but I took somebody out turning at the wrong place. Sorry about that.

Anybody have a good qualifying setup? Mine is very stable but it's not that fast.

lol. Yeah I hate that place. My oldest wanted to watch a movie, so we hung out and watched Starship Troopers. Much better than frustrating myself with that track.

Great race by Jim, proving once again that consistency beats fastest laps. T2 really gets me. If you hit it perfect, you can go fast in and fast out. If you get it wrong you can do fast in and not come out. If you play it safe and go slow in, you also come out slow. INFURIATING!

I did find a line that helped about halfway through the race. If I kept it tight to the final pit exit cone I could go in at a medium speed and come out at a medium speed pretty reliably. It just wasn't as fast as those magic times I hit it in qualy. Sonoma... I'll get back to you...
