It works really well on the Surface 3. I have a client with one that I use off and on and it works fine. Once you figure out the right click and left click on the stylus, it's great.

I've been using one for almost a year. Like it.

Get the Surface Pro 3 wireless video link.

Get or have a monitor in your trailer of your preferred size and that has a USB and an HDMI port. Plug the receiver into the monitor and establish the link. No accessories required for the Surface Pro 3. Demoed this for Roger and the AiM guys at MSX in Charlotte in February and it was trick!

Less than $70

I bought a surface pro 2 which has a cell modem in it. This version is a mobile version of windows - something which was not readily apparent to me when I bought it. It was not compatible with AIM. My fault for not paying attention although I did buy it mainly for work. I bring this up in case the surface pro 3 has two different versions like the 2.

I bought a cheap HP windows machine from Microsoft for $175 - track only computer. Works great.

Only downside of the surface is that it doesn't really "sit up" like a lap top. It has that little folding foot thingy but it is not great to use on your lap if you are traveling and have the attached keyboard.

I have been using a Surface Pro 2 since last year. RS2, RS3, SmartyManager, etc.... all run just fine on the Surface Pro 2 (make sure you are using the "Pro" model, otherwise, you are NOT running a real copy of Windows).

And If you have a Smart TV, like the newer LG and Samsung models that incorporate a Wireless-N capability, you can use the Wireless Display (WiDi) feature right out of the box to connect to the TV - no special adapters required. WiDi was kinda clunky in Windows 8, but much improved in Windows 8.1. If you have a Surface Pro 2 or Surface Pro 3, and have the Intel i5 chip, you are all set for WiDi support.

All the pro machines come with Win 8 or Win8.1

Only the regular Surface 2 comes with Win RT

The middle one (Surface Pro 3, Core i5, 256 GB SSD) is preferred. You can get the top one (Core i7, 512 GB SSD) for $2K but the mid machine is fine.

thanks for that . i was looking on line and trying to decide between the 2 . i also use the racekeeper system in the car . the hd cameras use a lot of disc space . i use to transfer them to a hard drive or the cloud but sometimes the three files somehow get disconnected and then they become useless. still, to keep them stored on the computer hard drive is dangerous given how often these machines fail. so, disc space size isnt really that important to me anymore
