MoTeC Maths for Gear Display?

I recently had a couple dashed unlocked and memory upgrade to 8 Mb for around $750 each, by PMNA. You need to get the dash unlocked to add GPS also. Last week, I had them make one of those a Pro version for an additional $1450. If you have the original version with 1.4 Mb, you will only record about 10 laps before it starts over writing data. Ridiculous but PMNA needs to make money somewhere.

You need to contact a MoTeC dealer to get the unlocking info. I'm not sure who you use for race/car support but the two folk that have done MoTeC work for me are Dave Ferguson (Veracity Racing Data) and Rich Walton at Jerry Woods. Dave is a long-time MoTeC guru and is now located near Paso Robles. Rich at JWE is very familiar with cup cars' MoTeC and what is allowed (or not) for the various series.
Adding a steering potentiometer can be done to any dash and it can be accessed in the normal or Pro analysis. I don't know if the predictive lap info is available in the standard version, it certainly is in the Pro version (and is very easy to use).
It's been a few years, but it's a simple software update/upgrade with the code to unlock a dash and like anything MoTeC it isn't cheap. IIRC about $4k. You do not need extra memory. You can do amazing things with the Pro functionality - configure lots of different 'alarms', turn your shift light module into a brake pressure meter to help with braking, and lots of additional calculations for analysis.

I'm likely going to hire someone to get me up to speed on the MoTeC stuff. I'd like to be self-sufficent and not have to rely on an expert to do simple stuff. At this point, even consistently recording lap times isn't there yet. And I'm still not clear as to what I need to do when I got to a new track, or deal with minor variations of my home track, Thunderhill, where you can run the bypass or Cyclone. Ideally, we'd have a reference lap for all those situations.

FWIW, my dash has GPS working. I can plot out a track map and see all the fine details (speed, brake, throttle, etc.) along the track.
I don't know how much memory my dash has, but I'm pretty certain that I've captured more than 10 laps.

24Chromium (Don't I know your real name? Are you a 'black sheep' with Mooty?):
To get a personal lesson in using MoTeC, I'd strongly recommend David Ferguson. He spent hours with me when I bought my dash from him.
You can connect to your dash and use dash manager to see how much memory it has. Depending on what data you tell it to store and how much memory you tell your dash it has, Dash Manager will tell you approximately how much time you can record before the memory gets full. In my case, shock pots at 500 MHz eats storage space quickly, so I have a different Dash Manager configuration for enduros where I want to store 90-240 minutes of data.
On my dash, it's Functions>logging that opens this window and tells how long you can log at the bottom. If you click on the 'configuration summary' icon (looks like an open book), scroll down to see if you have a 'Steering Wheel Angle' already configured, but simply unused.
If you want some help, I'll be at Sears Point racing with PRC March 14 & 15, stop by and I'm sure there will be some time available. I may be there on Friday testing too. Send me a PM if interested.
