Question MXL2 and Hobbs Meter Functions?

I expect to get my newly rebuilt engine back from Autometrics soon, and I would like to install a Hobbs Meter to track engine operating hours (I have the early Motronic ECU and not the Bosch MS3.1 ECU). Are there functions available in the MXL2 that can allow me to accumulate engine hours while actually running (i.e.- NOT simply a "Power-On" condition)? Or must I use a digital output function that is triggered by the Oil Pressure analog channel (i.e. - when Oil Pressure is > .5 Bar) to trip a relay or enable a power circuit to power an external Hobbs Meter?

Would appreciate any suggestions our forum experts would care to offer.

There are several time and mileage logs in the EVO4, MXL2 and MXG. I believe they can be triggered by RPM (time on) as opposed to power on.

My EVO4/G-Dash have RPM on hour meters, several.

DANG TOBY....serious stuff there.

I just figured out that the pistons are the thingies which go up and down and the crankshaft is the thingie which goes 'round and 'round.

@Peter, that's good news. Is there any documentation that describes these timers and how to control them? I looked at the AiM documentation page and didn't see anything in the MXL2 references. This would make for a good second or third page to maintain.

The logs in the channel report are log time - so it's either rpm > 500 or wheel speed present. You can also make a simple math channel to give you total miles covered along with the one that is displayed on the logger itself, which is cumulative.

You can then takes the time listed and put it in a spreadsheet to track. This is the most popular way.

Joe is at racecartracking.com is going to add MXL2/MXG compatibility and that is the by far the easiest way.

Default stock MXL2 logging starts above 1000 rpm. That's a good, easy measure.

Connect the MXL2 to your laptop with RS3 and in the firmware update page tab far to the right and lower down are multiple counters...

And you can see all of the counters on the dash as well.
