Reference lap data archive?

Well, yes but we don't generally teach 0/0 students the fastest line around the track even for them. We teach straight line braking and late turn-ins until they have the skills and we have the confidence to let them find a faster way.
I guess i fall into the local coach category, sorry to get off topic but.
I hear alot of....he is teaching you the racing line vs the DE line
....i completely disagree with this term.
To me....There are 2 lines.
1. THE LINE - Fastest line around the track....it is slightly car dependent and definately adjusts with skill level......if your not at or just over the limit at entry your turn in will be different than someone who is.
2. Defensive line ....if your protecting against a pass
Instructors teach line adjustments based on their comfort in the car, their feel for the drivers skill, and their skill at teaching....so variations are very common.....try em all out and see what works...hopefully with data
Rant over.
Reference laps are nice to help identify what the car is capable of....driver meh.
Can help show driver skill aplication... does shorter harder brake work vs longer smoother etc.....

Was about to answer, but look under live measures at the mV at no pressure. Should be 500 mV or thereabouts.

Thanks Peter. I didn't mean to post it in this thread so I created a new one. I don't have the car with me and I never downloaded the data from Summit but I will look at the some from VIR to see if I see it. It seems that if it is knockback, then others would have seen it though.

Another idea if you want to share some files is to use TrackAttack.io. Groups like NASA Great Lakes have a big share going on there and let each other compare data. While not from your car, it's good to be able to see data from a friend that is quicker than you are in a corner.
Maybe your the person in your area that has to boot strap that? Trackattack just changed their business model, but you can still do the speed and GPS measures for free. Might be worth a shot.

I find I learn by example when looking at data, and I'd love to be able to compare my laps to a reference lap in a similar car at each track. I can't imagine I'm the only one, but while lots of people share videos it doesn't seem like anyone shares the actual data files. Even videos can be hard to find too -- there are many on Youtube but often very poorly named, so hard to find, and when I do find one for a given track, it often isn't clear what car someone is driving.
Is there any site where people share this kind of thing, and are people interested in it? I understand at a pro level, and maybe even upper level amateur, that data would be very proprietary -- but at the DE/TT level I'd think much less so. I for one would be happy to share.
The great thing is most of the software is freely available, so even if someone doesn't have a vbox or aim (or whatever) that doesn't preclude them from being able to view data (+video) from someone else that does.

If you want to get this going, let me know. I have a few ways that I've helped other groups and I'd be happy to jump in and do a webinar, conference call, virtual meeting, etc. with the group to get it going.

This is a great video from Andrew Rains (Apex Pro) and Eric Meyer (NASA Great Lakes) about using reference data. They talk a lot about what to look at and the end has some great info about how to use reference laps from another driver (not just someone who is faster). Great stuff!

Great question from the Op that took many turns down alleyways and rabbit holes.
I agree that a compendium of lap data from different sleds would be a great way to share and compare. In terms of 'what's right', well, opinions abound and the ability to get a driver's performance to exceed the car's performance is the magic mojo we all seek.
On a side note using AiM products: I'm stunned that the 'track layout' (a diagram that features track width) is not easily found in RS3. If it exists such that it shows where the driver was in relation to the apex/edge of the track, I'm all ears and would love to find it. For now, I'm relegated to riding a bike around the edges of the track to get a layout that can be used to show the driver if he's driving the fastest line or not. So far, this feature is absent and one would be led to believe that said 'fastest line' could be a feature in the track map layout (much like it can be turned off/on in many of the racing games by Simbin).

Thanks for the great responses folks. I need to find some time to check out some of those links.
Starting a local data group is a good idea too, will be interesting to see if it resonates with anyone else in my local PCA chapter. I’m more than happy to share data from my 997 Cup, and my son drives a spec 944 so at least we start with both ends of the class spectrum!
