Question Targa Newfoundland

Hey everyone!

Twas wondering if it was a good idea to enter a 996 TT into the Targa Newfoundland, or any rally at that?

What could the Pros and Cons? (Aside from mating your car to a tree, or down a revine...)

Many thanks

Pros:
1. hp and torque
2. AWD
3. reliable

Cons:
1. you will beat the car up and may even destroy it
2. suspension set up. I've not seen a 996 tt set up for rally's. The GT3 is being rallied in Europe.

Worth a shot, you'd say?

^ absolutly.

let me know how it is, i hope to be able 2 enter it when my finances permit.

you'd also be blazing a trail..first 996TT rallied in a major event, without factory backing at that!
the futurworld GT3 car is factory backed and racing with success i believe in europe, and hell that thing was RWD.

even if you don't go to take 1st place, its an experience of a lifetime. have u done it before?

Any ideas how to set up my car? Like wheels? Tire choices... I already have the full roll-cage and even an "unneeded" fire extinguisher. I'm already tracking and going to as many track events as possible, but a Rally is for me. It's either the 996 TT or the 04 Cayenne S, which I've REALLY REALLY REALLY modified...even the badge says Cayenne RS.

But any input will be much appriciated. PM me if you want to discuss specs on either car, or talk set-up.

Thank you my friends, have a great holiday

996 TT for sure. The Cayenne is sweet but you need the nimbleness of a sports car for this event.

The 996TT has been tried at Pikes Peak. Anyone know what the result was?

Honesly, I have thought about doing this race a lot. There was a 951 in the event last year, but I would probably buy a suby or something like that with spares and make a whole deal out of it. One of my buddies from graduate school would be the co-pilot co-engineer.

The Targa Newfoundland is on public roads, so there is no chance beating up the car in it.

Yes, but they are Newfoundland public roads As a native of Newfoundland, I can attest that the condition of the roads on most of the course is not the best. The car can take air in a few sections if you're willing to push it. Jumping a 911 is going to be hard on it. A friend of mine has been doing the targa for the last few years and does quite well. He runs a "Targa School" at a track close to Toronto. You can contact him at: http://www.openroadmotorsports.com/

Happy new years people...SO...BIG QUESTION...Should I enter my 996TT, JWC Mini S, or highly modified Cayenne "RS"???

AND!!!!!! Will all you nice folks go out and root for me if I do? I'll even get all your names and make stickers on the hood of the Porsches if I do enter!

best wishes in the new years!

Depends on if you're planning on running in the "Targa" class or "Touring" class. The Targa class it the "beat a certain time" class and requires a rollcage and other non-stock safety equiptment. The Touring class is a TSD ralley and a stock car can be used.
