Use RO water bought by the gallon at the grocery store. Its cheap and no spotting after a wash. I use a spray bottle and wet my car by the section. Wipe it off with a wet clean microfiber towel. Ill use about a half dozen cleaning my car. Afterwards another wipe off all the while using fresh clean microfiber towels.
No hose,no dryer,no spots. Ready for wax.

If you won't be able to keep your car in the garage after a wash avoid washing your car when temperatures are below 20 Fahrenheit as it could result in frozen locks and ice build up in door jambs/seals.

planning to take your garage queen out this winter on a nice sunny day for a "spirited" drive?
don't risk losses in traction or handling! remember to pay attention to tire pressure in the colder months of the year. expect about a 1 psi drop (~2% to be more precise) in pressure for every 10 degrees F drop in temperature.

Clean bird droppings off your paint ASAP. Keep a bottle of instant detailer and a microfiber towel in the car to help get the droppings off even if you are not home.

Make sure you dry out your door jambs etc...doors and trunk can get frozen shut and you can tear the rubber seals if not careful. Best to wash and then pull indoors to finish the drying.

If you're worried about your wheel cleaner being too strong for your wheels finish, spray some water on the wheels first and then apply the cleaner. The water will dilute the cleaner a bit and give you a little peace of mind. You can also just use soapy water to clean them if you're really concerned

While drying your car after a wash, spray a product like Meguiar's M135 or D155 on the surface while the car is still wet. The car will be less likely to scratch as you wipe up water spots and you'll lay down a nice coat of protection/gloss at the same time. If you can't wash outside during the winter, try D114 or D115 as a rinseless wash.

I little tire dressing on your windshield wiper arms, minimizes ice build up and eases clean up of a buried car. Silly remote gas cap freezes too on the winter Boxer. A little dab of dressing there keep ice build up at bay.
