My cheap old Lowes-bought hand vac that I use for light clean-up work in my car finally collapsed.

Anyone have a good suggestion for a replacement -- looking for high power. Not particularly cost sensitive.

Have been looking at the Metropolitan 500. Anyone have experience with it?

I have the Griots version which isn't built as well as the Metro but it is extremely powerful and portable. Make sure you get the attachments, they are very useful especially when you need to get into tight areas.

I should note that I initially had the MetroVac VacnBlo which was excellent. I had a minor problem with it and returned it to Griots for a replacement. Unfortunately the replacement isn't built as well.

Thanks. When I looked at the Girot's own brand vac my first thought (from a design standpoint) was that it is a rebadged Metropolitan.

That's exactly what I thought as well. Maybe the Griots is a rebadged MetroVac but also a budget version of their standard offer. I have gone through two of them already and the third isn't looking to good. They all have the same problem, the cord connected at the cannister will slowly disintegrate either from the inside our outside and it will eventually fail to turn on.

The best vacuum we've ever purchased was a ridgid from home depot...model # wd4070. The first one was so good, we bought another one for the shop. MY wife ended up keeping it when I brought it home for a project; so now I gotta get another one for the shop. So that's 3 of them we'll have.

Ended up getting the Metro VM6B500-- really wanted something small. The metal build quality is good. It has acceptable suction. Compared it to my old Hand Vac. The power is about the same. I'm "content" with the Metro -- it's okay -- but I should have gone with the Metro Vac and Blow at 4hp.

Any one have a favorite small 12V or cordless rechargable vacuum,? (to always have in the car for a quick cleanup no matter where you are.)

One of my favorite detailing tools is the Handheld Dyson V6. Granted, on full power mode, it only lasts 5 minutes so if you are doing this professionally I would avoid it and get a corded vacuum. But for me, cleaning up 2 cars on a weekly basis, the Dyson is fantastic. Relatively light, not loud and does a great job.
