97 C4S Exterior Extreme Makeover
I figured many of you may enjoy this detail we did today on a heavily oxidized Guards Red C4S.
Single stage paint and had not been waxed since the owner could remember. Paint was no longer red but a faint pink color.....truly sad.
I used Optimum Polish for all the cleaning and polishing steps and only 2 pads, one black wool finishing pad and a black foam finishing pad.
All steps were with a rotary, first step with the wool pad was at about 1700 rpm's. The final polishing step was at about 1400 rpm's.
It was sealed with Gliptone paste wax then topped with Optimum spray wax.
Here are some pictures, enjoy them
Skies were overcast but you can still notice how dull and chalky the paint is.
This is a side by side comparison on the hood. The right side is untouched while the left side has been polished with the black wool pad and the Optimum Polish.
Now here is the front deck lid all polished and sealed
Rear deck lid after being polished and sealed
Fender after being polished and sealed
Thanks,
Anthony

Off hand I don't know of any detailers, personally, in your area that I can feel good about recommending to you. I'll ask around a bit then get back with you.
Take care,

Anthony, Fantastic work and I am in awe of what you do. One question - according to your posts you frequently have used different products i.e Menzerna, Optimum etc etc. I can certainly understand that you are sometimes trying out new products - some that don't make it into regular production like Shokar, and clients possibly specifying the products they want.
But if you can provide some insight as to when and why you would use - say - Optimum polish over Menzerna vs Megs DACP/NXT etc would help me decide my detailing choices

LOL...a big smile crossed my face as I read your post I have shelves filled with products sent to me to try out from various manufacturers. Some are good and some are down right junk!
I get to use alot of products that do work great though, Menzerna is one of them. I love their FMJ but really dont care for their wheel cleaner, Acrylic QD or their glaze. I also use and recommend the Menzerna Intensive Polish and Final Polish II. Many people feel that I just push a product cause I am getting some type of financial gain but this is furthest from the truth. I do get free samples of the products I am testing but after that I pay just like everyone else, so with that said let me explain now, as best I can, the main difference between Optimum Polish and Menzerna and DACP.
DACP is a nice product. It flat out works and performs its job but it also has some drawbacks in that it dusts up real bad, clogs pads, stains trim and is a real PIA to remove if left to dry for a period of time (wiper arms for example). I don't care for it by hand but then again it is designed to be used with a machine, so I can't fault it for that.
Menzerna Intensive Polish has, for me personally, a slight edge over DACP in all areas and Final Polish just blows away DACP BUT here again they were not created to compete against each other. Final Polish is designed to be just that...a polish to prep the paint just before you wax or seal. It cleans paint, removes fine scratches (which adds high gloss) but will not do much beyond that.
What Optimum Polish does is everything that DACP does with none of the side effects BUT with the finishing abilities of Final Polish. This is pad dependant though. So to remove some marring, halo scratches and swirls you can use Optimum with a fine wool pad or foam medium cutting pad and then with a fine foam finishing pad or a velvet foam finishing pad, produce a completely swirl free and flawless finish that is ready to wax.
This is why I have coined the phrase "spectrum polish" when describing Optimum Polish. It is able to work this way because it can be worked for such a long time without drying out.
I will tell you exactly what I now have in my product box. I carry Menzerna Powergloss for heavy buffing, Menzerna Final Polish II, which I usually use on black cars after Optimum Polish for that extra depth and gloss, and Optimum Polish.
I also have some products from Gliptone that I have been trying out and a polymer sealant from Optimum that is in its testing stages. That's it. I used to carry 4 or 5 different leveler and polishes but I have reduced that to the above 3. As soon as the Optimum Compound is ready I will replace the Powergloss with it but most likely keep the Final Polish.
I hope this helps you out, if not please let me know.

Anthony - Thanks very much for the detailed post. It certainly helps me - and I will look for Optimum when my current stock of supplies runs out... Never thought I'd say this - but I wish I lived closer to Texas - but only so I could drop my car off with you!!
