Keeps me happy with my Redline choice.

Just switched to RL 0W40. Sending in a virgin sample for oil analysis.
Also, interesting to note that not a single mention about using an approved oil. They specifically mention and show data from Redline and Amsoil.

I was curious about that. And you see the guy who wrote the article for PCA works for MPT lubricants so possibly a little bias there but he compared to both Redline and Amsoil as the next top two. I'm thinking this oil guy is thinking they are the top two oils he competes against as far as quality.

Well, MPT is quite a bit more expensive than just about everyone else so I think it's fair to use them as the upper bracket for quality. I think what's more telling is that PCA hired a guy that works for an oil company that does not submit to approval testing to write an article about synthetic oils. It's the same for a lot of the companies that are deeply intrenched in Porsche engines. Most of the air-cooled guys use oils that are not on any Porsche approval list and many engine builders recommend non-approved oils, too. LN Engineering has a lot of info about oils and Porsche motors.
There was something oddly satisfying about pouring in that green Brad Penn oil into the 911. Likewise, the smell of the ester-based RL oils is incredibly unique. Will be interesting to see how this oil does compared to Shell T6, which is almost entirely Group III.

Your right, I do like reading some of the Charles Navarro's articles and others on LN's website, also some interesting discussions on 'Bob is the oil guy' too.

Good article, but something to consider:
0W-40 options
Redline = $130
MPT = $180
Royal Purple = NA
Mobile 1 Euro at Walmart = $57
Seem like price wise no comparison. Someone else can chime in here regarding the Mobil 1 Euro formula, but its always worked well for me so I question why I would need to spend that much more for the other brands.

100% Agree, If Porsche puts in M1 0w40 from the factory, that's what I will put in and its reasonably priced as well!

People talk about oils being "serviceable" and if you pull out M1 after 5K miles, it's not a serviceable oil for a Cayenne because it's out of grade. The Cayenne needs a 40-50 weight oil, and something in the 30 weight range is way too thin. My wear numbers decreased going with a different oil (T6) and it was able to stay in grade through 11,500 miles, where the M1 was sheared out of grade after 5K miles. Not only that, but I only added 1 qt oil in a 10K mile oil change on T6. I just switched to Redline 0W40 and have sent in a virgin sample. I'll update my T6 thread with the recent UOA, too.
Maybe some people are ok with an oil thinning out as you put miles on it. For me, that's not acceptable, and my UOA show that the car has less wear and consumes less oil when it stays in grade.

WP - Good info, thanks. Will be interested in seeing the results. I would definitely switch to redline if the price was closer. Not to sound cheap, but lets see how it holds up for the full 10k mile interval.

With a $15K to $20K rebuild price for a CTT engine I won't fret about doing a 8~9Kmi oil change or a few dollar price difference. I get my Redline for $11 per qt so I guess that's $99 and use 5w-40 which is a Porsche approved oil weight. If you use the logic that Porsche uses it from the factory then it must be good then what do you think about all of the Cayenne S engine failures, 20K oil changes, Cardan shafts that go 50~70K, plastic coolant pipes from the factory. Porsche gets paid a healthy marketing sum from Mobil so they can put that sticker under the hood, it may meet Porsches warranty requirements of 50Kmi but that's not good enough for me.
