Default CPO Nightmare

Hi, this is my first post on this site. I just purchased a 2020 Cayenne coupe S CPO from a dealer 250 miles away from me. I have the signed CPO forms dated 8/8/23. I went to my local dealer to have a speaker looked at and they mentioned in the system it is not registered as a CPO vehicle. I call the dealer I purchased from: Apparently, they traded the car to their infiniti lot and then back to Porsche, which they forgot to mention voids the CPO. The dealer wants to drive 4 hours, pick up my car, drive back, get it recertified and then drive 4 hours back to me. I said "No" and asked for the general manager to call me back. Do you think I can get the local Porsche dealer to certify it and bill the out of state dealer? Any other thoughts? Or am I stuck having them drive it 500 miles to fix their error?

You're stuck with the original dealer, imo.

Take it for a drive, have them reimburse you for the time/gas/snacks/etc.

It sounds like they are offering to make it right. At their time and expense.

While both being Porsche dealerships, if they're through different ownership groups, one might as well be a Ferrari dealership and the other a Honda dealership.... very unlikely to have your selling dealership pay your local dealership to essentially pay for CPO on your car.

I'd try to have the local dealership perform whatever "inspection" is needed for CPO then send it over to your selling dealership and have them CPO the car from there if it is possible... if not, sounds like either you or a porter are going to have a day of driving to do.

They can tow the car to and fro, might be the easiest solution for you, if that doesn't freak you out, as it would some of us.

That kind of sucks, but on the bright side, it's an excuse to go for a nice drive. The dealer that is willing to make it right w/the certification should at least reimburse you for gas.

It doesn't void the CPO... They're lying to you.

It used to but they changed the rules in 2020. My car was CPO, but it went to a non Porsche dealer (that brokered the deal) So they "bought" it on paper and when I got it, it still was CPO. Never had an issue with warranty claim either.

What would they gain by "lying" if they're spending all this time and not asking OP for any money in the process to correct the issue? You may have had some funky paperwork that ended up benefiting you in the end, but it is pretty standard CPO coverage does not transfer to future ownership when purchasing the vehicle outside an authorized Porsche dealership. Sure there are outliers, but it is the practice.

PITA, yes. Nightmare, no. Decide what you want ie mileage, accommodation, fuel, meals, etc and tell them. I’m guessing they will agree to any reasonable request.

There was no funky paperwork, I called Porsche NA and asked. I called a few dealers and asked. The consensus was that in 2020 they changed the rule. You're correct that it used to be standard practice that when it went through a non Porsche dealer the warranty was voided but not any more. I did extensive research on this issue back when I was buying my car. Maybe they changed it back? I'm not sure. But I can tell you 100% when I bought my car it didn't matter if it went through a non Porsche dealer.

Agreed - just drive it back and let them make it right. An inconvenience for sure but hardly a nightmare.

Dealer is doing what they can to make it right. Constraints are constraints. Far from a nightmare.

Sucks that you will spend some time to do this but at least the dealer is willing to make it right in the first place. I won't call it a nightmare.

I had a similar situation when we bought my wife's CPO Mercedes. The 6 mo period had elapsed and the dealer offered to drive to my house, pick it up, drive back to the dealer, get recertified and then deliver to me. I accepted and the car was full of gas when I got it. At that time, I was too busy to drive the round trip (about 4 hrs).

If I were in your situation and had the time, I'd drive over one morning, have them certify it, spend a night out on the town, sleep in a comfortable hotel and then drive back in the morning.
