Dashcam or Radar Detector in 9Y0.2
Has anyone gained access to the overhead light console to get to the dashcam pre wire or have hardwired a radar detector in a ‘24 Cayenne?
I gently tried to get the console off with some trim removal tools with no success. I didn’t want to force it and break a plastic clip - and I can’t seem to find what this piece looks like to know where to pry or slide a credit card in to release a clip.
Has anyone done this yet and have any tips? I’ll post some photos once I get mine all installed - but still need to get the dash cam shipped. I was hoping to see the pre wire plug and game plan the connection from there but I’m stuck at step one.

You don't need to pull off that piece...at least for the radar detector. Here is a thread on how to tap into power on the mirror for this.

Success! without heart attack and damage 😂
use 2 prying tool, go deep enough and slightly give force towards to windshield downward. just when you think you are going to have a heart attack because you are afraid of breaking something, it pops out 😂
notice the clip on each side
red wire tap into red and blue spot black wire to brown.
it was actually less clips and easier than boxster or gt4

I did get the OEM dash cam in the mail - will see how easy that might be. The rear one it came with looks a little more challenging.

yup I was ready for that heart attack as well 😂
do not worry. the 2 clips that holds the piece is designed to pop out with some force. not the regular looking claw clips that were in cayman/boxster, which I had hard time when I was installing. Just make sure you put the prying tool where I indicated, not by the clips.
I wonder, are you getting blendmount? or just use escort ezmag mount. kinda don't want to spend 110 bucks on it. wonder if it's worth it.

Ok. Well that almost produced a heart attack. I was able to hardwire the radar detector with the wire tap and then I proceeded to pull the entire top console out to use the pre wire for the Porsche dash cam. I’ll post more pictures of the final product later but it ended up being a fun adventure.
1) the top center console light area does have a thin trim piece held together with what looks like 100 clips. I thought I was breaking it for about an hour until I just pulled a little more and got it to come down. During that the lens for the map light for the driver and passenger popped out. Be careful mine ended up in seat purgatory between the passenger seat and the center console. Took about 20 mins to discover the resting place.
Front one pushes off like the previous poster said. Easy peasy.
Start up here to work the clips free. It feels like you are breaking it.
All the clips.
Here’s what it looks like off the car.
2) once that is off the main console actually comes off with a hard press of the center - it’s a spring loaded plastic clip contraption. It will swing down on a hinge when it’s off. Exploring to see how to do this took me about 45 mins of trial and error but once I pushed it hard enough with my fingers it easily flipped down and exposed all the wires.
Don’t force it off by prying. With your fingers you can push that plastic clip mechanism really hard to release the entire unit.
Push that plastic thing. It connects in two places.
Dash cam pre wires are located about here once it’s off. Yellow is for the rear camera and the main power is to the left
3) I had to remove the console to get to the dash cam pre wire harnesses. The yellow one was immediately obvious. The square black one - well it is hidden on the drivers side in the headliner. I tried to remove it so I could get two hands on it but I gave up and just worked the main power harness up there and “click” it’s there forever now. Routing the yellow wire for the rear dash cam was easy.
Rear camera wire
Main power - the black square 6 wire harness. It’s hidden back there. Plug in from the windshield side and push back towards the rear of the car to get it to click.
This dang piece and the light lens
Whole center light console

If I did it again or had some pictures to start with - it would have been a 1hr job and not the three today of me contorting my body trying to not break anything.

Thanks for doing this!
I'm going to hardwire my radar this weekend maybe. It would be nice if I could get ahold of the harness piece that comes with the camera as that would make the hard wire really easy. I'll probably just run it along the headliner and down the A pillar.
