Negotiating with dealer on a new MY23 GTS
Hi All - After taking delivery of my MY23 Base Platinum Edition last fall, I've realized that while I absolutely love the car, I cant live with how slow it is. I drove a friend's GTS, and immediately realized that I couldn't go back to driving mine without experiencing some serious FOMO.
My local Porsche dealer just took a MY23 GTS into inventory (presumably one of the very last 9Y0 Cayennes produced). I like the spec - It has a lot of what I like, everything I need, but not everything I want. MSRP is $145K. Do I have any leverage? If so, can anyone offer some perspective on how much leverage I have? I assume the vast majority of Cayenne shoppers would go for the MY24, which is now widely available. Also, you can pick up a certified, very lightly used MY23 GTS for around 20% off MSRP, so I'm hoping for between 10-15% on this one.

My local dealer has a GTS with 8k demo miles on it. It's still at 0 owners, but they're offering it for 121k, down from 135k. I think you should get some wiggle room, but not a whole lot for a GTS.

They're not going to care. If I hear how "rare" the GTS is one more time, I'm gonna jump out the window. I understand it is rare. I'm a GTS fan and buyer. However if the car has been sitting for months and months, the buyer for the GTS is just as rare as the GTS itself. Why they won't negotiate or "we can do 2k off" is mind boggling. It's an old body now that's been sitting. These covid car salesmen need to get off the dam crack they are smoking.

So ... this MY23 GTS still isn't what you would really like to have. My recommendation is to relax and order a 2024 Cayenne S equipped exactly like you want. Its V8 has more horsepower than the MY23 GTS, almost as much torque and the cost might not be that different.

Thats an option, but 1) I'm not crazy about the new Cayenne, and 2) I dont know that I've ever seen any Porsche on a dealer lot (or otherwise not ordered by me) that was 100% what I want. 90% of the way there aint bad.

Be enthusiastic about the car, "but my budget is X." It's a process, keep being enthusiastic and keep repeating, "My budget is X." It also helps to listen intently while he speaks and repeat some of it back. Also take time to be be silent....often in that awkward silence, the counter party tells things they shouldn't. It doesn't always work, but it has worked at times.

The biggest leverage you can gain is to expand your search and add more cars to your list. Make it clear to your dealer that you have other options and can walk away. A better deal out of state easily covers whatever extra cost you have to pay.

2023 > 2024 looks wise and the new car has nothing in terms of useful tech improvements
CPO 2023 with the extra warranty that you can get now is a much better choice than ordering a 2024 S with a lower spec (or higher price) and still waiting 6 months+

4% off my ordered to spec GTS a few months ago. 10% off seems wishful, unless you have a preexisting relationship. 15 seems ...
My strategy was to remind them 24s were coming soon, and that they had a previous GTS sitting on the lot for ~six months.
I think I could have wrung out one or two percent more, but there were some other confounding factors, so I had to softball it.
