The Suncoast Porsche dealership right there in Sarasota should be able to help you.

We lost a key for a differentPorsche. It’s a multi step process. You need to order the key first from the parts department. They want the vin, registration and your ID to confirm you own the vehicle. We got the key a couple weeks later and then scheduled the service to program the key. It took a couple hours. The manual says “it takes a long time”. It was about $400 for the key and labor.

$400 is not way out of line with other Euro manufacturers. Somebody is going to figure out how to make them and make a fortune.

If you think a single key is pricey, wait until you lose the one remaining key you have and then have to order a new complete set. Then the vehicle has to be flat-bedded into the dealer and a pair of keys coded to it. You will go from hundreds to over a thousand. While no one likes paying for an extra key, its smart to have two all the time. Put an Apple Air Tag on them so you can always recover them.

This should be part of the "Good to Know" app. Jesus. This is eye-opening and has redefined the value of a "key" in my mind. I understand Porsche is a brand but somethings gotta give when a Honda key - remote, keyless entry, blah blah - costs literally nothing.

Yep, it is mentioned in the owner’s manual, along with the ominous “This can take a long time.” My question is what happens after you lose your eighth key?

^^ I think it means that you can only have eight keys programmed at any given time.

"My question is what happens after you lose your eighth key?"

You go to the Assisted Living Facility in your area.
