I would have zero qualms about using a C40 in place of a C30 (or C30 in place of a C20)

I've personally run a Driven DI40 (C40 equivalent) in place of a C20 and C30 oil in four different vehicles and put tens of thousands of miles on each in both very cold and very hot weather with zero ill effect other than loss of fuel economy since 2017.

What I always recommend is testing the oil that comes out and make a change and then test the oil again at the next oil change interval so you can quantify for yourself the change actually had a positive effect on wear.

Porsche has approved a new X4 version — Mobile 1 ESP X4 0W-40. The X3 version remains approved. Excerpt below. See attached for full document.

No info on where to buy it yet.

Thank you Schnave. The X4 has the newest API SP spec which has specific requirement to address LSPI issue where X3 has API SN Plus which was a gap filler with some requirement to address LSPI issues. However, X3 also has dexo2 and MB-Approval which have much stricter requirement than API spec. Therefore, you won’t go wrong with neither one.
