Which specific software solution?

And how (step-by-step) is it done at the application level?

My apologies if I'm asking what seems like a simple question and an obvious answer. To me, a novice, it isn't obvious.

I've searched through the discussion and there are so many different sets of instructions and lots of arguing. It's difficult for me to find the specific answer, especially for my specific PCM (5.0).

Your patient help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm wondering if I could get an old iPhone and download Google Maps plus Apple Car Play onto it. I'd then connect the iPhone to my Cayenne by wire to the vehicle's USB port and let it use the hotspot on my android phone to connect to the internet rather than having the phone use a cellular plan of its own. I would let my current Android phone connect by Bluetooth to the vehicle for calls as usual but use the iPhone only to run Google Maps and only when in my Cayenne. If that would work, I could probably get an old iPhone for just that purpose for less than the cost of one annual subscription to the crappy Porsche nav. I'd probably leave the iPhone in the car as I wouldn't use it for anything else. If this idea is possible, I wouldn't even need a cellular subscription for it.
I guess the real question is can one phone be connect by wire to the vehicle at the same time as another is connected through Bluetooth and both be usable as described at the same time?

2019-2021 all equipped with PCM5 and android auto can be activated remotely. Check my post in forum and also the development project for it in this forum.

1. software solution will just patch the files on application level so it will not effect anything and completely invisible to dealer’s diagnostic tool.
Also re activation can be done by owner themselves if installed from our server.

2. step is very simple, just need a usb network card( either buy dlink dub-e100 or can modify any usb network card with ax77882a or ax77882b chipset)

The connection is simple, just connect the usb network card to car USB port and then connect the Ethernet cable to it, then connect the computer to the other end of the Ethernet cable.

Download installation file to your SD card and put SD card into your car

Then connect PC TO VPN sever.
Finally just do installed from webpage on your phone

3. There is thread posted by darkpower that described in very detailed that how it works. The whole process only take 10mins if all set up correctly.

I just got my Cayman S 2022 and used a new ApplePie Mini 2.

I can tell you this is was not effective solution for me. The first problem is that ApplePie will not hold the Bluetooth connection. You can make the initial handshake but then it will keep dropping the connection. This means that the only way to get it to work is by connecting to my phone's hotspot and the piggybacking off the 5G/LTE network.

In addition all it's doing is running Android 9.0... not real Android auto. This means that many of the apps do not work to their full potential if they work at all.

Also, I ran into one really weird problem: if you try to listen to music while running maps directions, It will force ALL the sound to come out of a single speaker and effectively ruin the music.

I have reached out to Exploter support to see if they can help but right now it's not looking good.

those boxes are based on android os and acting as a apple device so that car will see it as a apple device to have CarPlay protocol between car and that box, on other side, it will act as a sever to accept connection from you phone, then the sever application will make translation between the data from car (via CarPlay protocol ) and the data from your phone with wireless connection

the quality of the box is totally depends on how good is the sever software. And those bugs you have mentioned are all relates to that

Quick update: I just finished working with @Darkpower . I messaged him and then hired him to enable Android Auto on my MY22 Cayman S (PCM 4.0).

While I was nervous because I don't know him at all - and honestly he doesn't know me - It turned out to be a great experience. We ran into a technical glitch early but were able to work together to find a solution.

Android auto is now running perfectly on my car. Just wanted to share that in case other people are in the same situation as I was 😃

If all you want to do is enable AA on PCM4 as a DIY, instructions on how to do this using just an SD card are here: https://rennlist.com/forums/991-turb...-in-991-a.html
