Porsche charges what, $25 for the stem alone. I'm not sure what to do unless I schedule the mobile and see what comes of it.

TY this looks exactly right. It's been a while already so time has been kind. I sort of fashioned a sleeve from a plastic cap that ha allowed me to air up a few times but this is ridiculous.

Guess I'll get the part and by force of will get some tire guy to use it.

IDK. I'd probably bite the bullet and get a new complete sensor. The cost is so little as compared to the potential aggravation if/when the McGyver fix lets go...

And then you know you've got one fresh battery. If the set is a few years old, you'll be replacing them sometime soon anyway...

Piggybacking onto this thread with a semi-tangent:

I set up a winter set last month. Brand new TPMS, all good, worked great. Last week I had a tire swap done (same wheels same new TPMS). After they did that, the TPMS calibrated and the car learned them correctly - but after ~10 minutes of driving it reverted back to the "new tires? adjust settings" screen. Since then it won't seem to learn them, at least not in the ~30 minute drives I've done.

Any ideas for what could be happening? Why it would learn them but then forget them, and not re-register them? Is there a way to do a "hard reset" on the TPMS system to force a re-learn?

You can get the sensor service done at most shops. A friend of mine has a garage and he works on mostly domestic stuff. His machine can copy the frequency and parameters of your existing sensors wirelessly and then program them into his universal ones. He has done them on a few of my cars including my 2017 Cayenne and they work perfect. He charges me $60 a wheel can’t go wrong with that.

Good points. I know little about these things. Just that the one they showed me looked pretty cheap and is definitely non repairable.

The fact that these stems are prone to corroding right off the wheel I found profoundly disturbing.

Thanks for the input.

Sullivan Tire just spent an hour trying to wake up the sensors I got from TPMS.com

Huf Intellisens TPMS Sensor Set 9A790727502 433MHz

No joy. So I'm going back for a second visit in 10 days. They will pull the Huf sensors and install ones they source.

<sigh>

Or I could just put some black electrical tape on the instrument cluster where the error shows up.

Thanks for the offer. My car is a late 2015, so I think I need the later sensors. And...I'm going to leave it up to the the tire shop to source the sensors. I've already spent too much time and money trying to save some money...

So...I tried the electrical tape and it fell off.

Sullivan Tire swapped out the sensors for some they supplied, woke them up, and gave me back my car with a working TPMS system.

On top of that they discounted the sensors *and* didn't charge me for the tire unmount/remount. I figured the whole thing was going to cost $400+. They charged me $240.

Thank you Sullivan Tire!

End of story.

Glad to hear you got this sorted. I’m also a big fan of Sullivan Tire. It’s my new go to shop after years at Direct Tire.

I spent a lot of money at DT over the years. I also learned to decline most of their suggested maintenance after my indie verified, multiple times, that they were being *very* aggressive.

Barry was a good guy. Years ago he personally ground down some wheel bolts for me that were too long, and the shop was otherwise quite busy...

@marinerbc do you still have those tpms available? I have a 2013 CD and bought some summer tires but since they came from a 2018 model, the tpms installed on the wheels wont read on the dash.
