Default Cayenne Diesel Engine Cover

Is this blanket on the underside of the plastic engine cover replaceable? Does anyone have a PN? Has anyone DIY’d one? I washed mine and it shrunk, popping the glue spots where it’s attached. Strange, but there you have it.

I have left may engine cover off for the last 2-3 years.

So, leaving it off is an option.

Top mechanic YouTuber, Scotty Kilmer (5.7 million subscriber) hates those "Beauty covers."
When working or examining a car, he always throws the Beauty cover into his yard, "those things are garbage!"

I think it is mostly aesthetic, but the manufacturers always claim it reduces cabin noise. A real cynic might say it is to discourage DIY maintenance by presenting a "sealed unit" but we all know you just pull it off.

Yeah I can leave it off. It may keep dirt and debris off of the top half of the engine compartment.

I really thought it added another layer of insulation between the motor and the hood, especially with the turbo. I’m considering making one out of that heat blanket material that is used around the turbo if I can find it or something similar.

Is someone who only has three functional mounting points on the engine cover two of which I had to create I can tell you that the blanket material can be secured with high temperature RTV. You will however have to pin it in place and obviously since it has shrunk it's not going to expand back out to the original size. I ended up opting for our TV and then reinforced certain points with marine grade epoxy. I also used the epoxy to reinforce the plastic around the grommets that actually secure the engine cover. Sadly they did not design the engine cover to include the installation of a dipstick so mine does sit slightly to an angle. Small price to pay for a standard dipstick.
