All season tire recommendations for 21”
Hi all
about to pull the trigger on a ‘12 CTT - with Turbo 2, 21” wheels.
Living up north so want something year round - any recommendations and considerations of the swap? More tire wear, noticeable change in feel and handling?
yokhamas, or Pirelli scorpions?
thanks.

17, CS with 21" Sport Edition Wheels . Had the 20" scorpion zero on my previous 16CD and they were great in the snow, so decided to go with the Scorpion Zero 295 35R21 all season for this vehicle. Only have about 2000 miles on them since May so no cold weather/snow yet but no problems here in upper midwest when I had the 20" . Under $500 each with new TPMS installed/balanced etc. I looked at Michelins but it was going to be over $100 more per tire. I had the Michelin Lattitudes on the 21s and the Pirelli seem a bit quieter, but others will say the Mich are quieter than the Pirellis.

the quality has improved all around. Im not expecting it to handle like a small 2 door, but I can easily take turns with confidence and not have to hit the brakes. Over bumps the larger sidewalls make the car feel overall less bouncy and rough. I had 35 series before this and was generally avoiding bumps in the road, now with the 40 series I dont have to be on alert as much. There are posts about upgrading to a 40 series and everyone is in agreement that 40 series is superior than the OEM spec 35 series.

I am a big fan of the Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus. I have had them now on a couple different rides, and they are great tires for the colder months. Honestly none of us push our SUV's hard enough to truly justify anything over an All-Season tire. These and Michelin A/S 4's are the 2 very best.

We had the DWS on our 21" sport edition wheels. They were great at first, but around 15-20k miles in, they get LOUD. We then changed to Pirelli Scorpion Zero a/s and they were great, very comfortable and quiet, but we could never really get them to balance 100%. It wasn't bad enough to send back a tire, but around 85+, little shimmy. We've had similar experience with Pirelli tires on other cars as well.
Just recently, we installed Yokohama geolander X-CV. So far, very happy with them. Balanced 100% smooth, and they are VERY cushy. If you want a more sporty tire, I would not recommend them, but for a soft SUV ride, they do well. Surprisingly, the pattern on the X-CV is VERY similar to the new Bridgestone Alenza tires that come as OEM on the Cayenne's.

Increased Tire Wear When Towing?
I replaced my DWS06 tires in December 2022 with the Pilot Sport All Season 4s. 7 Months and 10,000 miles later, the rear two are at the wear bars! Truth be told, I have been doing a fair amount of towing for go-kart racing and camping, so am wondering if others have had similar experiences with these tires when towing...or if you recommend a different make/model for avid towers. I have a '16 CTT. Thanks!
