Default Diesel Fuel Additives

My 2014 CD had the DPF replaced at 35,000 miles under warranty. I attribute this to the fact that my wife is the primary driver and she only does short city trips. We purchased it used with 25,000 miles on the clock, so I don't know how it was driven during that period. It's the car we use if we go out of town, so it does see an occasional regeneration. Or maybe it regenerates more than I suspect, as sometimes when she pulls into the driveway it sounds like a jet engine as the radiator fans are running full bore, I don't know if that indicates a regeneration in progress or not. At 48,000 miles, we aren't currently having any problems, and just completed a 2300 mile road trip, all at 70+ MPH. I have to believe the DPF should be pretty clean at this point.

I'd like to be proactive and take some steps to keep the DPF from getting clogged moving forward. Has anyone had any first hand experience with the Liqui Moly Diesel Particulate Filter Protector product? It seems to directly address the city driving scenario. I'm also considering the less expensive Power Service Diesel Kleen +Cetane Boost product which doesn't really make any claims in regard to enhancing DPF regeneration.

The best thing you can do is once a week, take it on the highway.
I fill our diesel up at this time. I add Diesel Kleen (Power Service) to assist the fuel system: against freezing, increase lubricity, prevent corrosion.

Do highway miles, 20+ minutes of cruising with oil temperatures of 200+.

With a 2300 road trip, your DPF cleaned itself 2-3 times. It's good.

These diesels are made for highway driving.

I ended up buying (3) cans of Liqui Moly Diesel Particulate Filter Protector LM2000 and (3) cans of Liqui Moly Truck Series DPF Protector 20258 from FCP. I couldn't figure out which one would be more appropriate so I guess I'll try them both. I just added a can of the 20258 to a 3/4 full tank of diesel. Not sure how I'm going to qualify the performance, but the DPF not getting clogged is the ultimate goal.

Take good care of those particulate filters. There are none to be found in the US and they are backordered...

Part number: 7L8254800NXKT

I managed to find one sitting on a shelf at an Audi dealer...was talking with my indie about nuclear options - gutting the clogged one and coding it out (Malone Stage 2)...but I live in a state where this could be a serious challenge.

Looks like the truck series might be more appropriate as it covers up to 30 gallons of fuel. The LM2000 covers a small quantity of diesel, I'd suspect for vehicles that don't have a fuel tank as big as the CD.

Would you add that along with the regular diesel fuel additive- both at the same time?

Additives won’t help the DPF. Running it hard will. But…. You should run lubrication additives on any commonrail with that hpfp. It’s the weak link in the fuel system.

So the claims of DPF cleaners by chemical companies are bogus? It is hard to believe that an ounce or so of an additive to 27 gallons of diesel fuel will make much difference in lubrication but then about 8 or 9 ounces of Power Service Diesel Fuel Supplement stops 'jelling' Can about 3 ounces of Hot Shot LX 4 Lubrication to 27 gallons actually add lubrication?

Just a reminder to the Diesel guys.

Get your favorite fuel additive for your diesel during these very cold days.
You need to Prevent jelling and help with lubricity for the high pressure fuel pump.

Every fillup, winter or summer (using appropriate version).

Your HPFP will thank you for it!

Will using fuel additive each fill up prevent injector failure long term? I use Diesel Kleen with every fill up. I want i make sure those injectors stay clean, because I understand that injector failure repair is expensive. Is that the right additive or is there a better one/?

the hpfp is a bigger concern because when it fails - it ruins everything including the injectors. There are a bunch of good additives out there. I use hot shots diesel secret, howes and powerservice (white for antigel) mainly. If you google best diesel additives you can see testing results of each. On a CP4 commonrail - you want the additional lubrication.

XPD at every fill up. Saved my biscuits last week when we had snow and icing conditions north of Vegas.

I've never used any additives in my 2014 CD here in Southern California, but you folks have me wondering about it now because it's a tow vehicle and it can get very cold overnight at a few of the tracks here. Would the Opti-Lube XPD All Seasons additive be a good one?
