I've been experiencing a ton of shenanigans by dealers in the few CD-CS I've looked at.
I caught myself looking at a new VW Taos - but my life is not that boring yet.

I'm interested in whether the average dealer believes the CD to be an in-demand hot car.

I have a Land Rover LR3 with 160k miles that runs beautiful. (knock of aluminum)
I'm looking to replace it with a CD or CS.
I do my own work and I fully understand fussy high maintenance relationships.

For some reason I'm drawn to the CD

I was shopping about a year and a half ago. Looking for a base or CD. I found them to be about equal price wise. There are obviously a lot fewer CDs out there. I would tell any dealer that wouldn't allow a PPI to pound sand.

I got my 13 CD with 84k miles for 23k. Hope that helps.
