There are too many vehicles on the road for this to become a big issue.
If the diesel makes sense for you, just do it. It's a wonderful motor!

I have been looking for quite some time for a diesel cayenne with the options I was looking for. I seemed to be able to get usually 75%. My main objectives were tow package, entry and drive, roof racks, pano roof, I would have liked the burmiester system and 18 way seats.
I really need to get a tow vehicle like yesterday, sooo I am probably going to pick up a 2011 Q7 trip with 82k ( it had a latter fix so warrrenty til. November of this year. It was mostly a California car. I hope to have checked out for leaks and anything fixed then I plan to delete dpf and tune.

@DrZ1 Q7 TDi makes a wonderful tow vehicle The motor will pull all day and the slightly longer wheelbase of the Q7 adds comfort and stability.
I've towed Uhaul trailers weighing 4K+ with the Q7 and it's like the trailer isn't there.
On the other hand, I just towed a 4K 21' travel trailer with the CS and it's, um, like the trailer isn't there!

Any idea of difference in reliability between 2011 and 2015 in engine or body? Kind of figured the same I think Audi brought this platform out in 09. I am waiting for the dealership to take possession of the car.
Also Owning both vehicles I’m interested in how is the cargo difference?

With regard to the engine, the design changed in '13, IIRC. I'd prefer the newer platform, overall.
With regard to cargo...that extra wheelbase makes for a much longer cargo area and substantially more capability with the rear seats down.
Interestingly, according to Dr. Google, the wheelbase difference is 4" and the overall length difference is 10". I would have guessed a lot more!
(Maybe I was thinking of my old Range Rover LWB, which had an extended wheelbase of 8" over the Classic. That made all the difference for fitting three car seats in the rear!)

Still looking. The Q7 didn’t have factory tow just a hitch. I’ll keep looking I do think it’ll be the Q7 due to the cargo area but if I find the right Cayenne diesel I’ll make do. Ideally I should get a truck but prefer a SUV
I’m curious on thoughts of a diesel will rise faster than gas prices are. Or if diesel may drop if there is a DEF shortage. Not sure if the DEF would decrease the demand as well as the price
