How hot is too Hot on the 958?
Still trying to figure out why my 958 runs hotter than I want.
Driving my Cayenne 958 up the 15 towards Victorville, Ca in 100-degree weather, keeping a close eye on the road and the temp gauges.
So, the hottest my engine got was 237 F and oil 242 F, on flat ground and going downhill,
The engine was 200 F, oil 230 F
Driving around the neighborhood to the store and back, engine 200F/ oil 217F
Is this somewhat reasonable for a 2015 Cayenne S with 78K miles?
The engine temps were never stuck at hot levels, nothing became constant, just fluctuated temps according to speed and terrain (and outside temps I guess).
Thanks for any feedback... Im trying to trust it... only had it for 3 weeks.

So every day driving on surface streets it is 200 F 99% of the time... I would go out on limb and say 100% of the time.
When traveling 55mph+ on a freeway , uphill, it fluctuates as high as 237 degrees and soon as there is some downhill relief or slow down in speeds, it quickly gets back down to 200.F
only time it gets wild is when traveling 65mph + it stays at 200 F for the most part but high dessert, and hills it does jump to 204, 215, 227 and rare for it to go near 240, if it does it is very brief.
Thanks for any feedback.
Note: Brand new thermostat installed 2 weeks ago

if you dare ask about anything different, or add something else other than what the original thread was about, we get yelled at:
"Start a new Thread for this"...SORRY about that

Others can probably chime in but I don't think that's normal. Granted I've only had my GTS for a few months but I've never seen over 200F coolant temp as far as I can remember. Only the oil temp fluctuates, mostly in the 210-220 range but the turbo motor may run a bit hotter; I have the NA V8.

thanks...Im really concerned now...
The Porsche dealer detected a fault that the radiator coolant flap (one of them ) isn't working, so maybe that is it.
Too bad my 90 day dealer warrant said NO, they were not covering it (bought it used from a Range Rover Jaguar dealership).

I wouldn't worry just yet. It could be as simple as a sensor. You didn't get any codes?

nope, no codes, no warnings..
Porsche dealer said there was a fault detected (electronically) about a radiator flap that was not working but the warranty company was not too worried about it.
No lights or anything.
Im going to take fora spin in the neighborhood for 5 min.
I have to decide whether I'm driving it to a job in Las Vegas this Friday or not. Might rent a car for insurance lol.
Thanks for your replies

Did a drive from Universal City to Van Nuys airport and back
My 958 is determined to keep the engine temp at 200 but it just can't help itself. It rises when accelerating up a freeway ramp and then drops back down to normal, which is a good sign. Then for no reason, it will go to 204 or 206 before dropping back to 200. At stoplights the engine heat burps up to 206/204 and then a few seconds later is quietly rests at 200.
The oil temp is all over the place.
Do these numbers look like I have sick car to you?
78K miles on it. (2015)
It drives beautifully. No warning lights, Just a moody engine... brand new thermostat was installed 2 weeks ago.

I have been searching for a delete button to delete this thread and its not showing anywhere.. The answer given in the FAQ does not make any sense..
It states there is a delete button next to the edit button. That is a lie - I don't see it... after 20 min. trying to figure out how to delete a thread I give up unless someone wants to reveal the mystery.

Actually, I may have found the culprit....
After reading and reading on forums about this, and knowing that a radiator cooling flap showed up as a fault from the dealership,
I reached in and manually opened the radiator cooling flaps....now the radiator can BREATH !!!
I started the engine and they did not auto-close... Tomorrow I will take it for a cruise and stop and check and see if the cooling flaps auto close while I'm driving unbeknown to me. If they do I'll get a Porsche mechanic to disable them (remove fuse or disconnect switch) .
This I think is the culprit for very warm temps from my engine... especially since the dealership ruled out a faulty water pump and replaced the thermostat
Hmmmm
