Default Transfer case oil - what brand do you use? Valvoline anyone?

Just wondering what you guys use because one dealership I know sells and uses Valvoline over the P brand. Found out My Indy mechanic does the same on his wife’s cayenne. He said he uses it on bmw’s as well.

I think if you spend the time to read one of the several threads on transfer cases and the oils we've used you'll find your answer. So far - that's the first I've heard of Valvoline. Might work fine, just no experience with it. Is it spec'd for the Cayenne transfer case? Do they recommend using it?

ok thanks. I did research and read so I am aware. Just wanted an update to see if anybody is doing anything differently. Loeber Motor part department guy recommended it to me over the Porsche one. Then I found out my Indy mechanic was doing it as well. But then I moved to a different state. So I am back to ground zero. Parts “kid” I talked to here was just that. The Service Advisor I talked to here said no we dont change transfer case oils here at that point I know she is not telling the truth and I did not push it further.

I thought "Loeber" sounded familiar. Sure enough, one of the tech posts videos about Porsche cars. Maybe you can drop a comment and ask him about it.

Ravenol is rebranded something or another. There was a post or YouTube video about it. BUT I found it easy enough to order everything from pelican and get the price was fair enough.

When it's time to change again, I'll likely find the base fluid, Valveoline, I think, and go with that.

If you click on "About" you can see his email address. That's probably the best way to contact him.

She was probably telling you the truth. Most dealers are not changing transfer case fluid on any vehicle that is under the 10 year extended warranty on the transfer case. They replace the transfer case with the revised version.

It would make more sense for the dealer to change out the transfer case than change fluid.

Dealerships gets paid by Porsche for changing transfer cases. They get nothing for changing the transfer case oil.
