Default 2017 cayenne purchase

I’m new to Porsche driving BMW 3-Series in the past.
Family is growing and looking for bigger car. No exceptionally happy with the 2020 Benz or bmw suvs.
I’ve come across at 2017 cayenne platinum edition at 21,570 for $50k.
Does that sound reasonable or should I push for something better?
is there a warranty that I must get like tire or windshield?
what are some issues you think I’ll come up with in a 2017 cayenne?
thanks for your help.

If you get a base Cayenne make sure it's 2019 or better. The 958 and 958.2's have a dog of an engine. So anemic. I have a 2015 Q7 that will best that 958 base Cayenne. The 3.0T Q7 engine is a great motor.

I believe that is a horrible value proposition unless it is the best spec'd base engine car produced. The worst of the depreciation is still to come. In one year adding 10k miles the value will plummet to 37 retail... meaning they'd offer maybe 32 on a trade. That 18k drop is 36% of the car's value over the next year. If you went with a 35k mile 2016 or 2017 Cayenne S for under $45k you'd only lose about $10k over the next year and you'd have a superior engine. I can't speak for the Hybrid S.

Agree with above reply above saying anemic engine in the one you are looking at. Honda Odysseys might be faster to 60mph.

Warranties are always a bet and there's many opinions out there... Windshield warranty I would only consider if they replaced with an OEM windshield. Companies like Safelight use $8 Chinese windshields and that windshield warranty package might cost you $450 for 3 years.

Agree that the base is anemic....especially for a Porsche. Also seems a little expensive for year and model. Keep looking. Have you looked at Porsche's used car locator fora CPO Cayenne?

@Joanne Ilustre I share your views on some of the other brands. What about Benz and BMW doesn't appeal to you?

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate everyone’s comments. Will keep everything in consideration.

the Benz is very luxurious and I’m looking for more sporty.
the bmw felt clunky and not as smooth as the Porsche.

And windshield insurance? That's what comprehensive is for. Set the comprehensive deductible to $50 (cost is about $5 additional per year) and you can get whatever windshield you want. As far as SafeLite - owned by Allstate BTW, the first windshield they installed in my Boxster almost fit - but not quite right in the corners. I told them I wanted OEM - the insurance company approved it - and I came away with an excellent install job and a St. Goblens windshield (factory OE windshield - ordered from Porsche.) Total cost to me: $50.

I suggest to test drive both and determine what you (really) need... I'm in the exact same situation and after test driving several I though that the 958.2 base engine was fine... of course one can always use more power but I don't think it's true that these engines are anemic! Everything in life is a compromise and if you want to keep within a certain budget (like I do) I'm fine with the base engine. Like-for-like a base '19 MY will cost $10K more than a '18MY, along with the worries that comes with a first production year.

You can have that 3.0T in a Cayenne...but it comes with yellow brake calipers.

It *is* a nice motor...my son is in the process of buying a Q5 with the same motor. Can't wait to thrash, er drive it.

Agree with those above stating the anemic nature of the base model in the 958 and 958.2 years. With the size and weight of these vehicles, you can definitely notice the lack of power. If you get a chance, be sure to drive both a base and an S and you'll easily notice the difference. When I was looking, I didn't consider anything but an S as I really feel that's the sweet spot for performance vs cost.
