Default Difference between Tip and Tip S

Been searching and can't find content on this. Can anyone explain the difference between the Tip S and the Tip? I'm looking at a few different 2014 Cayenne GTS models, and some have option "G1G 8-Speed Tiptronic S" and others don't. Both appear to be 8-speed.

Thanks in advance,

I haven't looked into this but I do believe (not known for fact) that the GTS transmission is a bit more snappy on shifts than the standard S or even Turbo. Again, I don't know for a fact but I do believe their might be some transmission mapping changes there for the GTS.

Perhaps my question wasn’t clear. I’m looking at only GTS models. Among the GTS models from 2014, some have “8-speed Tiptronic” and some have “8-speed Tiptronic S”.

What makes these two transmissions different?

Then I would assume it's just wording.

They are all the same.

According the ever reliable Wikipedia:

The Tiptronic S is an upgrade to the original Tiptronic, with the ability to adapt to driver's behaviour, and also allows driver to change gears without entering manual mode. In manual mode, if there is no driver input for a period of eight seconds, the system reverts to automatic mode.

I don't believe there is any difference, it just seems to be different descriptions of the same thing. My 11' S with the 8 Speed Aisin auto will do everything listed above. I will say that I don't really like the transmission though. It's alright, but doesn't shift fast enough and the 1-2-3 shifts are way too far apart for an 8 speed imo. The ZF 8 speed auto in the new Cayenne and countless other vehicles is a WAY better transmission for enthusiastic driving (though the Aisin will tow more.)

Do all the ones with the "S" marker also have Sport+ by chance? That would explain things..

All GTS I can find all have sport and sport plus.

Turns out that the build sheets are some hybrid of data and voodoo.

When researching this further, I found sheets that refer to Panorama Sunroof and Panoramic Sunroof (using an identical code). One build sheet, for the same car, pulled from PorscheUsa.com showed panoramic and the build sheet from the dealer site showed panorama. For the same car, one sheet showed G1G TipS and one didn’t.

Bottom line, some build sheets show G1G as an option and some don’t, but all GTS appear to have it. TipTronic S (or is it TipTrona S?) is the standard for the GTS and turbos.

My '16 GTS does not have sport plus; only sport. Sport+ is part of the sport chronograph package.

Thanks for correcting that! It turns out that all of the GTS I had been considering happened to have Sport Chrono.
Do you agree though, that all GTS have TiptronicS, or do you think that Tiptronic S could also be part of Sport Chono?
Cheers
