Lightbulb 958 Cayenne DIY : Replace your Pollen / Cabin Filter

CHANGE your own pollen filter / cabin filter!

Tools/parts required
· torx 20 screwdriver (T-20)
· a flashlight
· your fingers
· new pollen filter

STEPS
1) Remove your floor mat out of the way (not pictured), trust me you enjoy that little extra space
2) Remove 1 screw with your torx 20 screwdriver. It is in the front middle of the panel
3) Carefully pry the panel off. I did it with just my fingers starting from the left side
4) Remove the air duct, use your fingers to pry it off from the retaining catch / latch. The other side is just a slip off / on
5) Remove the air duct blocking access. I was able to remove it from the RIGHT side and got it to swing down but I have heard others remove it from the LEFT side first? YMMV (use only your fingers)
6) using your fingers, remove the old pollen filter (careful, it might be DIRTY!)
7) install the new filter. NOTE the Airflow DIRECTION arrows. The arrows should be pointed toward the engine. If using the official Porsche Pollen Filter, the gold side is closer to the engine.
Re-installation of parts is just reverse of the removal.

1st time? (30+ minutes)
subsequent replacements? (15-20 minutes)

Arrow

i have two more photos

the first one I actually started to stick the filter in the wrong direction before I pulled it back out and flipped it around
you will notice the gold color of the filter? (its on the official Porsche cabin / pollen filter), it should be on the engine side (flipped around) so the directional arrows are correct

the second photo is my old cabin filter. It was a bit dirty & nasty. I am pretty sure this pollen filter was changed out at least once, if not twice before but seriously check this thing if you are at all unsure.
when I ran the A/C afterward? I could tell!

wrong direction of the filter, it needs to be flipped around

dirty cabin / pollen filter. ewwww... nasty!

I realize this is a terribly imprecise way to describe this, but should the arrows point towards the passenger side or towards the driver side?

I don't recall now as I just put mine back in the way it came out, but it would make sense that the airflow would go towards the drivers side

.....and tack me onto the list that is buying the cover. Of course followed the advice of some dude on youtube in how to replace the filter and he said to remove via that tab that doesn't have the screw hole. Of course it snapped. Mothertrucker or some word along those lines came out. Thanks for the part number. I found it at a VW dealer down the street and picking up tonight. Basically $38 + tax. Live and learn. Still prob. cheaper buying the filter and now the door than having the Porsche dealer swap the filter.

happy to help, these forums are nice and active.

do not trust the direction of the arrows of any old filter, mine was the right way but I helped a friend last week and his was stuck in the wrong direction!

This is the first thing I do to pretty much any car that I purchase. Stayed true for my 958 Turbo S. Really helped too. My HVAC smelled pretty "damp" and musty and swapping the cabin filter fixed all that

Yeah, forum is awesome!

Thanks for the tips... I never trust the arrows, fortunately in my case I noticed all the nastiness on the correct side it should be. Also mine had yet to be swapped out it's not yet 4 years old and is at 25k miles, it was time.

I grabbed the part at the VW dealer, just got home and literally in 2-4 minutes had it all popped back off and on with the new part. Biggest part is the worry of what can I break when you go to pop off the panels and the vent / where and how hard to pull. Once you know that it's a really simple task. I can easily see 30 min. for the first time and sub 5-10 min on subsequent swaps. Just remember to unlatch the tab closest to a passengers knees / towards you as it has a screw hole in case you break it off. Harder to get to, but the way to go for sure.

The thing you can trust on the filter that is being replaced is that the dirty side of the filter is the inlet and the clean side is the outlet. I know it's pretty basic but the arrow should point to the clean side.

Default This temp sensor fell out

Thanks for this DIY! It took a bit of jostling to get the door open, but it went fine overall.

However I did find this temp sensor (1K0 907 543E) just hanging there. It obviously fell out of a vent somewhere, but I couldn't find where it would fit into. There's not a lot of space to look around. Does anyone know where this goes?

I checked the passenger vent in front of the fuse box but that had a sensor in it.

Awesome, thank you! That is exactly where it goes. I didn't noticed the small hole it fell out of. All is well now in Cayenne-vent-land
