Default “Limp Mode” caused by brake wear?

I recently purchased a 2013 CD and my wife has been driving it while I’m out of town. I knew the brakes were getting close as the previous owner said he had planned to do the brakes and had purchased new rotors and ceramic pads to install himself. I actually asked that he NOT install them as I figured this would be a fun project to help familiarize myself with my new car so he included the parts in the sale.

heres the thing the other day my wife said she got the “Break Wear” Brake Pad Worn warning and the car she says was not driving like normal. Like the power was held back.

Does the car go into “Limp Mode” or something like it until the pads and sensors are replaced and the system reset?

Thanks

Eric

Eric (Kaizer),

Unlikely. Something else is broken.

Ok the plot may have thickened.

Seems the word Brake has been displayed on the center gauge for the last week or so. I assumed this was the brake sensor warning light as I’m not there to see what’s actually going on. Yesterday the break wear warning came on.

Does this mean there is something else up with the brakes that might have triggered the BRAKE warning light?

Can any of this cause “Limp Mode”?

the car is covered under CPO warranty so I’ll take it in when I get home in a week or two but now being so far away is driving me nuts.

thanks

Eric

“Brake” warning light means your parking brake is set. And yes that would make the car feel like it’s sluggish.
Not sure if the 958.1 is supposed to turn off automatically if you give it gas. Try turning it off by pulling the button to the left of the steering wheel.

My wife swears she had turned the parking brake off.

can it be locked on even though the button by the door is off? No red light?

I believe her. She’s pretty bright.

Thanks

Could be stuck. It’s just an electric switch to a solenoid.
On the 958.2 you push to set it and pull to turn it off.
If she tries turning it off and on with no change you’ll have to have it looked it. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

Maybe low brake fluid level because the pads were worn?

I know I got a specific message relating to that in the MFD though (when I was bleeding the brakes)

My wife drove the car today and said that other than the brake lining light the car was fine.

no Limp Mode.

Im guessing she double tapped the parking brake button and didn’t realize it.

I will be home in a week and I will take care of the brake pads and hopefully all will be well with my new car

Thanks everyone

Eric

Brake light can be low fluid.

Break wear light is worn pads.

The parking brake automatically disengages when you hit the gas.
