Now that you guys have thrown a wet blanket over my full exhaust dream.... I am rethinking this whole thing. I really had my eye on a HHR full system. But at $4k, do I really need it? Do I want it that bad? What if I don't like it? And can you really tell what an exhaust sounds like on the internet?

Totally in the same boat - I want to maximize my tune with the exhaust. Those prices are just obscene - for axlebacks no less. And yes, never know if I’m going to like the sound - this is a family car after all. I definitely enjoy the fabspeed bypass pipes - great growl on startup but quiet down when warm. When you gas it, sounds great.
consider also the hhr 3” bypass pipes in case you’re looking to open up th rest of the exhaust to 3” later

Keep in mind that the fabspeed is 2.76” - I believe.
i might have to sell and replace with hhr in the future.

Right, but I don't think the fabspeed has the crossover.

Good point, never noticed that. Which tune are you thinking of?

I'm not sure.... I haven't really researched it yet. I finally settled on the HHR exhaust. I'm trying to take it in stages. Like the old saying "how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time". I think I have a good reliable base to build off of now. I have been doing a lot of foundation work on the car.

Sr1 or sr2?
their prices are still high for metal pipes - but the most reasonable compared to others

The single can. I'm not really worried about the metal. We live in a dry area. No salted roads or much rain.

I've even had fleeting thoughts of building my own exhaust. During my research before buying the cayenne I came across a thread where I guy made his own exhaust. But stupid me I didn't bookmark it, and now I can't find it again.

I hate sounding like a wet blanket - but cats are put on vehicles for a purpose. A single purpose - clean up the emissions. I remember what LA looked like in 1968.. I was there for 2 weeks before the smog blew out and I realized there were mountains surrounding the city. We're heading to LA right now (by Cayenne) to see our first grandchild. I'd like to think that people are concerned with more than how their car sounds. Personally - the standard turbo exhaust sounds perfect to me - I can hear it on startup, and from then on it disappears, and I know I'm doing the least damage to the atmosphere that I can.

Just sayin..

Please don't misunderstand me. Performance is the number one goal with me. Sound is a bi product.

Exactly - All about maximizing power from the tune. With regard to secondary cats, not sure how much they really do if no sensors exist directly before and after them.

Talked to fabspeed just now - he says his bypass pipes are 2.5 (same as factory); he says from their testing the problem with upping to 3” reduces back pressure and also drones quite a bit - something to ponder as I also was considering full 3” upgrade. He does recommend an axle back though as it does pickup some minimal gains.
