CarPlay Retrofit in PCM 3.1 Cayenne 2013 ( With Pictures )
I own a rare 2013 Porsche Cayenne with the majority of the available options like a panoramic roof, premium plus package, and my most favorite option, the 6 SPD Manual Transmission. I have kept my car in mint condition, and baby it as much as I can because the Cayenne with a 6 SPD Manual is no longer available for purchase. I am often saddened by the lack of Manual Transmission options for new car purchases.
While the car has aged very well, the infotainment system was still stuck in 2013 and needed an update. I purchased a CarPlay retrofit kit from NM Automotive, and Nick there was very helpful in answering all the questions. The device came packaged as if it sold at an Apple retail store, and the documentation was extensive. The CarPlay retrofit is a professional kit with everything you need.
The Installation is intense and is best to be performed by professionals; you should bring it to a competent shop to get the work done. I brought it to Erik at Perzan auto radio in Philly. Perzan specializes in high-end, high-quality installations, and they are a true craftsman with Automotive work. Erik and his team had the unit installed in less than a day. I am amazed at how well phone calls sound, and how well all the buttons map to the CarPlay unit. My Cayenne now has a computer and infotainment system from 2019 and matches the quality of the overall car. I no longer need to mount a mobile phone for navigation or have a something hanging off the dash of the car. All the applications work just as they would on your $1200 iPhone, with voice control to all applications working correctly. If you want to modernize your Porsche I highly recommend that you purchase a Retrofit kit from NM Automotive, and then if you're anywhere near the Northeast, bring it to Perzan Auto Radio for the install.

New Joyeauto Unit Update
Hey everyone, I'm happy to share a new firmware update for Joyeauto owners.
The update drastically improves smoothness of CarPlay experience by 2x and activates 60 frame per second capability instead of previous 30 FPS. It makes CarPlay much more responsive.
It's based on the latest original Joyeauto firmware from 2021-03-26 and includes all my previous fixes. I flashed the firmware on my unit, tested it and can confirm it works fine.
2021-5-10.custom.v2:
- Enables 60 FPS CarPlay capability

CarPlay Software Update Instruction:
Use at your own risk.
After firmware upgrade your settings will be reset to default. To restore your settings, you'll need to:
1. Go to Settings -> Carplay -> Enter 1123 -> Select Porsche
2. Go to Settings -> Smartphone -> Reboot
3. Setup wireless CarPlay again.
4. Restore other settings like EQ, Display, etc.

Thanks for the info. Also in the Philly area and have been looking at this. Question for you. When you turn off the car and return to it, does it stay on the car play with whatever source you were using or does it go back to the default for the PCM? Also, you are using the version that you need to keep the phone hooked up to the wire, correct?

Kris, When you turn off the car it returns to 'stock' however a simple press of the info button brings you back to the CarPlay, when you are running you can click the diamond button on the steering wheel and switch between the two. I think it does depend on how long the car is turned off tho, like when I turn off my cayenne the ACC stays on for about a minute. Yes the phone is wired to the unit and the phone is in the arm rest. Ultimately the phone calls all sound awesome because the wired connection has more fidelity than the bluetooth.

Yes, everything is still stock on the Porsche side. 100% you can click a button and switch back over to the Porsche side. The menu for the Car play give you the ability to program the steering button to switch between the two systems.
Just think of the CarPlay unit as "interrupting" the video signal, it does not effect any functions of the PCM. In-fact the Carplay is mapped to all the PCM buttons.

The CarPlay unit was around $600 and the install will vary on the car you put it in. I think it is safe to estimate about $1000 total. I believe that this is 100% worth every dollar as it has changed my car completely.

Is it possible to post the contents of the instructions, so I can ask my local shop if they are comfortable doing the install. They are good, and they do some serious sound systems, but I want t make sure.

You should contact nick at NM Automotive. There is a lot of information and he may give you the instructions; they are not for redistribution, thus I cannot distribute them
