Default Aftermarket Oil Filter

I've searched everywhere for this, and I can't find a thing...... does no one use an aftermarket oil filter on their Cayenne??

Generally, on all of my cars, I've always purchased the high-end aftermarket oil filters, as i've seen lots of tests that they have better filtration and flow, especially the new synthentic filters. Plus, I can just get them at the local parts store as a part of the oil change specials.

However, I just purchased a 2011 CTT and I can't find any threads about people using aftermarket filters. So - - - am I crazy for considering this??
I've always been partial to the Puralator PureOne, and lately the Puralator Boss... however, there's no part number for the CTT....
-K&N Part number PS-7032 ....
-there's probably others as well

I have no doubt that Porsche "recommends" using their factor filter - - - but is there something I'm missing in that you just have to use an OEM filter? TIA

I regularly use MANN filters - made in German - and strangely identical to the filter that arrives in the Porsche box, but about 1/2 the price when found on Amazon.

are you using part number HU9001x?

If so, its $18 on Amazon.... I got quoted $25 by the Porsche dealer.... the K&N is $9.60 on Amazon, and includes the filter cap o-ring....

At the end of the day, its not worth trying to save $20 if its the wrong move... but I've always been under the impression that the aftermarket filters have better filtration AND better flow than factory filters, so I'm just so surprised that there's no threads on this forum debating this... I've been an avid member on all different kinds of car forums over the years, and its usually heavily discussed/debated... this is my first P-car and it has caught me off guard that its not widely discussed....

i believe that Blackstone or similar analysis have proven that oil changes at the 5k Miles interval is necessary. My latest analysis says that the oil should be good for about 6k Miles.... but not the 10 that Audi and VW use.

Casey

edit: noticed the thread references a CTT. I don’t know the oil change interval for that, 10k Miles? I was referring to the CD, which has a interval of 5k miles. Which should be adhered to.

Both Mann and Mahle are quality German filters. Try Pelican Parts. The Porsche filter from the dealer for my 2016 is stamped made in China !!!! I buy Mann or Mahle every time.

Oil from my last oil change (11 months 6,000 miles).
Dark black. Next oil change will definitely be earlier than Porsche schedule.

Nope. Do 5,000-mile changes on the turbo. The '06 S I did 10k changes (it originally was spec'd from the factory for 20k!)

I guess we can start the discussion.. but IMHO - it's a moot point. The MANN filters (and Mahle) have been OE suppliers to German car manufacturers about forever. They aren't going to make junk and devalue their image/name. IMHO it's difficult to have "better filtration AND better flow" unless you're listening to K&N who apparently overcomes the basic laws of fluid dynamics with some magic of some sort. All that you actually need is adequate flow, and adequate filtration. "Better filtration" is more likely to make the filter clog earlier - leading to the system bypassing it - with the resulting no filtration.

Just checked Amazon - what I bought was:Mahle W0133-1798752-MAH Oil Filter Kit Cartridge

It includes the O rings and crush washer. Actually - it didn't have the crush washer in the box, so I complained to Amazon who then sent me 4 of them. Dunno what the price now is - this was back in 2016.. I did check the MANN filter# you spec'd and that's the right one for the 2011 V8 engines.. but it doesn't appear to include the o-ring and crush washers. Here are crush washers for $1/each: http://a.co/d/gtXTFd5

It's not a case where I'm trying to outguess the engineers. I have seen clearly defective/poorly-made filters come from places like Purolator (one BMW filter they made - made in India - collapsed because the media was inadequately strong. It provided no filtration after that..) I trust the ones made in Germany to meet OE specifications.

I think the question is "Does anyone use OEM oil filters on their Cayenne?"

I ended up getting the Mahle kit off of amazon yesterday... what turned me away from the K&N was the reviews that the o-ring for the canister housing wasnt as big as the OEM and leaked... that was enough for me to go with the Mahle

I use OEM in my last oil change.

I bought Mahle air filters for my CTT in the summer and I couldn't get the box to close because the rubber gasket is slightly larger than OEM (they're made in Austria). I had to shave a little off using utility knife and still struggled to get the lid on properly. All to save $20....
