Default Code P052C and multiple misfires on bank #2

Have a 2011 CS, the variocam bolt recall work was done about 1,600 miles ago. I started up car this morning and it stuttered for about 3 seconds than seemed to run normally however it gave me a steady check engine light. I pulled the codes and got a P052C along with multiple misfires on cylinder bank #2. My reader doesnt define P052C other than "generic fault" but it seems that it most like associated with Cold Start "A" camshaft Position Timing Over Advanced. I took back to dealer and they say that they they need to pull cam covers on both sides and reset the timing. I asked how the timing would jump or be off unless cam actuators had issue, guy says "good question, we won't know until we get in there" he then gives me a $3,130 quote of which most are things like gaskets, cam cover bolts, chain tensioner, etc. I asked how this would fix the problem and these parts were just replaced 1600 miles ago and he said, "this is an exploratory quotation, will most likely go up when we get it opened up."

My question for the group is what else could cause timing to be off? I seriously doubt that the chain jumped a tooth.

I would clear the code and let the car sit overnight. Then start the car back up in the morning and see if you have the same code come up. Unless I missed something totally obvious in the original post, I'm willing to bet this is an electrical anomaly. I find it hard to believe the timing jumped a tooth on a cold start. Unless of course the internals hadn't been assembled properly by the dealer several months back when you had the recall work done. Regardless, I think you should insist on escalating this issue to the service manager at this dealership. It seems that the parts they want to mess with are the same ones they touched very recently. Doesn't your dealer offer a one year warranty on parts and labor for their service work? At the very least, you should try and convince them to cut you a break on labor and parts if they insist on denying the claim outright.

+1. Make the dealer fix their "work".

Default Update

Dealer wouldn't budge from their $3K to investigate so I took it to an indy who has good experience with Cayennes and Panameras. He was just able to get to it this week and has found the problem. A small piece of the chain guide/cam actuator housing has broken off. This causes oil pressure to fall and chain gets loose, primarily on drivers side.

The interesting part is that Porsche doesnt sell this part separately, you have to buy a new head, $3200. The part is held on by 4 bolts and in PET you can see it but it's a dotted line image and not referenced.

If anyone has a damaged head please let me know. I did find the passenger side part on eBay for $100 but not drivers side. Number stamped on it is 948-105-261-2R.

Personally - I'd be all over the dealer on this one - that's right in the area that they were working.. someone slipped with a wrench. No way that casting just suddenly tossed off a chunk like that.

Hi happy Porsche people. I may have an P052C error on my 2015 Cayenne TT. Back ground owned for a short duration, had oil (Vacuum pump), coolant burning smell and P052c code. Spent 2600 in resolving first two. mechanic thought the first 2 were more imp and though the P0502C must have come from lack of driving so he reset it. As usual I did not drive the car for a month, drove for 3 days, after a leisurely spirited drive the car showed same error code. I parked and did not drive. Car has 3 bars low on oil but within limits. Oil change is coming due in 12 days. What kind of trouble am I in? Needless to say will ask him to view if oil has any metal dust or parts.

Thanks and stay classy!
