Many thanks, yet again. Is there an advantage to the PDCC and PTV offroad? When I googled it, the focus seemed to be at higher speeds on pavement.

And a side note, you may not want to go offroading now... at least not off any roads. The hot exhaust system could set the rest of the state on fire!

Never been an issue for the 10s of thousands of Other 4wheelers in Colorado.

PDCC will give you more suspension travel in off road mode since it can disconnect the sway bars.

PTV could theoretically allow you to turn sharper in tight situations. Mine seems to work even at parking lot speeds for tight turns

So this is me ^^ in a regular 955TT. I later added rock rail/side steps. It did not have any of the "good" packages like offroad or PDCC, so it was open diff. I disconnected the front swaybar. It could fit 18" wheels, so I had 265/65/18 BFGs. As you can see in the vid, it does just fine.

We took the same cayenne on track and off-roading on the same day with just a wheel/tire change and unbolting a swaybar droplink:

I have since sold that 955 (the new owner continues to off road it, happily) and gotten a 958 with PTV+, PDCC, PCCB. While the PTV+ and the PDCC are awesome, the lack of low-range is a huge bummer and the inability to fit any sizeable tires is also annoying. I occasionally drive it on the beach but would never do any "serious" off-roading in it again like I did with the old one.

The 958 running boards are garbage and offer no underbody protection like the 955/957 ones do. Purely cosmetic.

If you think you'll be doing any crawling/mudding/fording, go for a 957 with PDCC and a locking diff if you can find one. Get the rock sliders/running boards.

I can attest that the door seals are awesome and do work. All the Jeepers got wet feet and I stayed bone dry. I feel like we definitely got water most of the way up to the headlights.

For accuracy's sake, if you have the correct parts there is as much protection with factory 958 sill covers as there are with 955/957 ones. The 958 sill protection is in two pieces, unlike the 1-piece design on the 955/957. Sounds like you've just looked at aftermarket offerings, and/or didn't know there is more to it than the one running board piece. They are not "purely cosmetic".

I am pretty sure that I have the factory running boards on my 958; the metal part doesn't extend well under the car like on the 955. I'll shoot some pictures when I get home. But the whole rocker area where the air suspension pump and manifold goes, which was covered by metal with the 955 running boards, is not covered by the 958 running boards. It's just the plastic trim.

I hope that I am wrong, and as you claim there are better-protecting versions like the 955 had. I really liked them.

I guess it's entirely possible that whatever my build sheet says I have (which is damn near everything...I even have the little cell phone in the armrest) is not what is still on the car, seeing as I am not the original owner.

Back to the topic at hand.. I'm thinking of doing this. http://nnjr-pca.com/pine-barrens-off-road-excursion/ Anyone done it in prior years?

More on it: http://nnjr-pca.com/paul-millers-pin...-excursion-ii/

I haven't but I think some guys on Rennlist have. I doubt it would be too intense since there's nothing about needing all-terrain tires. Should be mild but fun.

That's my guess too - apparently the sweep the course right before the event to make sure no trees have come down, and branches as clipped back so the vehicles don't get scratched up. I think I'd put on my winter snows though..

Is the air suspension the same in the GTS as it is in the Turbo as far as ride heights.

No, turbo is higher.

What's the best tire size for an All Terrain tire on 20in RS Spyders that will fit without modification? I don't see ATs in stock size.

If not, what works on 19's.

I have heard second hand that 30.4" outer diameter is as big as will go, and that there are some Continental 20" all terrain tires in that size. Tire Rack has the specs table that shows this dimension.

If I was going for a 20" off road tire, I'd look at the NITTO TERRA GRAPPLER G2 in 265/50-20.

I have 31" snow tires that just barely fit and I'm using them on the Cayenne because I already had them otherwise I'd stay under 30.5"
