Default DIY Headlight Gaskets Replacements for 958.1

Problem: My current headlight gaskets are cracked, brittle and gooey to the touch.

No factory replacement part available now, Porsche parts manager stated that the 958.1 headlight gaskets are part of the headlight.

Friend and moderator here deilenberger recommended the Viton brand after experimenting with (2) other brands of seals that didn’t have the same temperature rating.

I ordered some 1/4"Viton PN: 2072T11 Temperature range -20°to 500°

You will need 7 feet however have to by 10 feet. Under $80.00 delivered.

No need to remove the beauty covers on the Turbo version not should be the same on all models.

Take care when removing the tool from the hex socket attached to the release rod, mine popped out and was attached to the headlight removal tool

The factory seals are not "bulb type", so the contour better around curves.

Each headlight takes 42” of this gasket cut and lay flat in the lens channel, by magic it will stay in place, a few spots on one headlight need a little trim from excess lens sealant.

I started on the end with the tab on the bottom punched that hole then pre-fit and marked the rest of the tab holes.

If your unhappy with the slight bulge at the top, try a small slit on the back side. This will make it lay flatter at the radius point. However, I left it as is after a few days you can massage it down with your fingertips and pushing down on the headlights at the same time.

No more than a 30-45 minute job.
No adhesive is needed, however I added a drop at the bottom corner as there was no tab on one side, gasket material available from link below.

Failed headlight seals

Now Viton Seals arrived

Most of the new seal is recessed in the lens channel

Top of headlight where it curves

Test fit and mark tabs with paint marker

Test fit

Holes made ready to install

Installed:

Difficult to see the seal on black paint

The headlight release mechanism not supposed to be removable

If the latch pops off this is where it goes and what it should look like:

Materials and tools needed:

Tools needed, 1/8" blade screwdriver to remove the electrical connectors. Had best luck from the headlight side(front) with a gentle pry then slide back.
Additional photo's over at 6speed.

Thanks much to Jay for doing this. He did a great write-up on 6speed, so I imposed on him to do one here. This excellent DIY was the result. The DIY has been memorialized in the Cayenne DIY Forum as: https://rennlist.com/forums/cayenne-...958-1-2-a.html

BTW - I think this type of seal will actually seal the gap between the headlight and body better than the factory seal. It's an improvement on the factory design and material used.

Don -thanks but no credit is needed... we all gain from this forum.
I agree this is a better product than the OEM only time will tell. The past owner didn't park it in a garage like it's current home so I may never know.
The 958.2 seals are replaceable like the 955/957. A giant FU to 958.1 owners.

Update: The gaskets are available here https://www.mcmaster.com/#2072t11/=1cnqh2l (thanks Don)
Select other quantity and purchase 7', this will save some money. I ordered 10' without paying attention to all the options.

Sorry to revive a 3 year old thread, but for anyone looking to do this now, original gaskets are now available from Aliexpress here for about $50:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005...51a92ee443d19f

I purchased a set of them. took about 3 weeks to arrive but they look to be original. all markings etc look identical to the gooey / cracked ones i removed (Except date code which was 2014).

Good luck all,
