fuel vapor detection pump location

I just did mine. I have a 2004 Turbo Cayenne and my original part number is 7L0906271C. I found one from EBay for $150 delivered with tax. It is made by URO and cross references from the Porsche part number 95560510702.
My issue is this. When I removed it, there was a brown wire that looks like a ground wire bundled with the connector on the top. It was just hanging there and I am wondering if it is contributing to my problem. When I reassembled, I searched for an obvious place on the body where wire would attach to but could not see anything obvious.
If anyone knows where this wire goes I'd love a hint. I'll try to get a picture.

Found it. It's on the top of the fuel filler neck. If you remove the fuel tank cap then the rubber gasket behind it it is easy to see.
Brown Ground wire looking up from right rear wheel-well. Top of frame is rear of vehicle - bottom is front of vehicle.
Grounding lug at top of fuel filler neck where brown ground wire attaches.
Grounding lug with brown ground wire attached.

I have this problem on My 2011 Cayenne S, Mechanic change the pump and gas cap code come backs, now He thinks its the worn filler neck from gas station nozzles, part is out of stock waiting.

Have you tried putting some silicone grease on the gas cap rubber seal to see if that helps (or a new gas cap)? Your mechanic should really do a smoke test rather than just replacing parts...

Burning Brakes
It's been to long time, I believe it was a direct fit.
